Visited Friday 3/1/24 around 5 pm. Extremelypopular time and restaurant was not equipped to handle the large crowd. Arrived to find people standing outside waiting. This is understandable as the menu provides a good variety of options. I planned to order fish, unfortunately the waitress informed me they had run out. As an alternate, I ordered the fish tacos. These were not fresh fish, rather they arrived as chunks of dry thick- battered flavorless fish nuggets loosely tossed into a dry pre-formed style of hard corn shell. The refried beans never disappoint. However, the rice arrived dry and crispy at the ends as though it might have been prepared and reheated. This experience differed greatly from past visits as plated food has always arrived steaming hot. Due to the crowded conditions service was impacted, however it is unknown why the quality of food was so diminished from prior visits.Vegetarian options: Green corn tamales, beans, rice, salad. Cheese enchiladas.
They were busy (I'll give them that). One table came in right after us and left quite a bit before us. It took awhile for anyone to come take our drink order. Overall the food was very good ?

We have always loved El Rodeo for the food and atmosphere. But last night, as we were getting to the end of our meal, they asked us to move on so others to be seated. We weren't there long at all. I've heard of this happening to others too. The server even said I could finish my beer in the bar? Now I feel like they were watching how much food we had eaten so they could rush us out. El Rodeo is a classic GV Mexican restaurant but we'd like to have a relaxing dinner without spying eyes ready to take our money, clean the table, and ask the next diners to hurry up too. If you go, my only advice is to chug your drink and gulp down your food.

Fish Tacos. Do not order the fish tacos as the small pieces of fish are fried to death and have very salted seasoning on them. You wouldn't know you were eating fish. We couldn't eat it as it was so bad. This restaurant also charges you to use a credit card without telling you. This is the cost of doing business and I don't appreciate being charged a fee to use my credit card to pay, as a small business owner myself.

This used to be a really great place, flavor-wise, but our latest fajitas order was not the generous serving of perfectly- seasoned grilled shrimp, split and of good size. The rice and beans were good enough to eat by themselves!This version was just generically- cooked small shrimp, unflavored with bland, tasteless rice and mediocre beans. If they have lost their chef, they need to get him or her back!!!
