Disappointed Return Visit to Madera Sunrise
I had high hopes coming back here. Last year, I visited several times and was pleasantly surprised—a real step up from the previous place. But this time, it missed the mark.
The waitress was excellent—friendly, efficient, brought coffee and water quickly. But the water glass had a cloudy film inside, not condensation. To her credit, she apologized and brought a fresh one right away.
The food was the bigger letdown. The waffle was limp and soggy—more like a pancake. The bacon looked like it had been sitting for hours: dark, dry, and brittle. I mentioned it quietly, and the waitress later told me she took half off the bill. Class act. I tipped her 15%.
Then at the register, I was charged the full amount. The cashier miscalculated the discount until the waitress stepped in again. When I asked for change to leave her a proper tip, I realized the cashier was in full chef attire. I joked, “You’re not the chef, are you?” He said, “I actually am.”
Not the way I wanted to start my morning. I won’t be back anytime soon, but I give full credit to the waitress—she was the best part of the visit.
This is a little late, but I just wanted to say Thank you for opening your establishment after hours for a motorcycle riding group. I was there as a sponsor/presenter and I thought you guys did a great job and the food was delicious.
Unfortunately we can not give this a good review. As first time guests we had breakfast. My banana bread French toast was quite dry as it was severely over baked. Burned to be honest. The hash browns were overcooked as well. I was hoping for a better outcome. I hope you find this helpful.
I liked the food however it is trumped by the lack of politeness and courduality from the server this morning. Not much of a pleasant gal that served us this morning. She seemed preoccupied. I also ordered a sweet to go and it was brought to the table in a plain paper bag that was actually torn on the bottom and the sweet bun was not wrapped and was just laying there on the bottom of the paper bag. I asked this server about why it was not wrapped properly and why it was put in a bag that did not actually seem that it was safe from germs. She said that was the way they did things like this. really!?
and ... the big one is that they DO NOT GIVE VETERAN discounts and I asked why and they said that there are just too many veterans in this area. REALLY?
I will probably go there again for their specials which are pretty good but I would not go there again for their service and attitude.
So delicious
My first visit, on recommendation from friends. Reuben sandwich was tasty, not too salty, plenty of meat, a bit light on the sauercraut. Service was fast and friendly.
Great diner. Friendly service. Xant believe it took me a year to find this place
Solid breakfast go to. The hashes are really good. The ingredients are fresh and real (not canned). Selection of hot teas is very nice. Service is really friendly and atmosphere is casual and easy. Family friendly.
Good food, very nice staff. Nice little breakfast and lunch eatery.

What a hidden gem. Stopped in after mass and enjoyed the Madera classic with peaches. Everything was cook to order and tasted great. We're going back soon. Staff were very attentive.
Great place with excellent breakfasts & sandwiches with luscious sides.

When we walked in there was a sign that said "Please wait to be seated", we were the first in the door and two other couples followed. The hostess bypassed us (walked right by us as if we were invisible and greeted the couples, not together, behind us) and seated the two other couples before even acknowledging us. We learned quickly that majorities of participants are regulars and from nearby retirement communities. We fit right in age wise but didn't live in the communities nor were we regulars. It was our first time visiting the area. A bit surprised how we were intentionally ignored as we watched the hostess seat two other couples before us, but since we are forgiving people we thought maybe the food is worthwhile!? We were eventually seated in a tiny little both with torn seats. We ordered the avocado spread on toast and biscuit and gravy. I was expecting the avocado on toast to look and taste like the one I order at FirstWatch restaurant, but instead I got a slice of bread with sliced avocado ? on it. And half of the avocado was rotten. ? I peeled the rotten part away. The bacon was burnt and flaked all over the plate when picking it up. The eggs didn't taste right either. The biscuits and gravy were very bland and had no thickness or taste to the gravy whatsoever other than flour. Our waitress never returned to our table for refills or asked how everything was. A different waitress showed up to give us the bill once she took notice we were standing and ready to leave. Our bill showed different prices vs the menu. ? We were charged higher fees vs menu prices, and when we went to pay the cashier added an additional $1 for using credit cards to our already overcharged bill. We visited this place Sunday prior to this post. We don't ever plan to return- due to mishaps, lack of care thereof, unfriendliness (not regulars), and bland food. We give it a two star because it's a nice set up and the nearby retirees and communities obviously finacially support it, although, it's in dire need of attention and overhaul on staff, consistency, management, menu, ownerships, cooks, and betterment idea's decoratively and overall atmosphere.
