At my sister’s recommendation, I found myself at this establishment one evening, and, quite frankly, I was not prepared for what awaited me. She confidently ordered two LA Canna subs with a bag of chips, and we settled in. Her sandwich arrived first—golden, toasted, practically glowing—while mine was conspicuously absent.

By the time she had finished her meal, I finally rose from my seat (with the solemnity of a man about to deliver a speech) and inquired about the situation. It turned out the cashier had forgotten to ring up the second order. Normally, such an error might earn a black mark in my mental ledger. Yet here, it became the turning point of the evening. Without hesitation, the staff apologized sincerely, offered my missing LA Canna free of charge, and, to my delighted surprise, included two Rice Krispy treats as well. One could say the mistake was… deliciously profitable.

Now, the sandwich itself: sublime. The LA Canna is, without hyperbole, the finest toasted sub I’ve ever encountered. The bread crackled delicately under bite, while the fillings melted together into a flavor symphony that had me briefly questioning whether sandwiches might in fact be humanity’s greatest invention. I intended to critique it with restraint, but somewhere between bite three and bite four, my inner critic loosened his tie, leaned back, and whispered, “Bro… this is it. This is the one.”

Even the Kool-Aid deserves acclaim. Expecting a syrupy sugar-bomb, I instead received a refreshing, balanced drink that was nostalgic without being juvenile. Dare I say, it was sophisticated Kool-Aid—if such a thing exists.

What began as a service error transformed into one of the most unexpectedly joyful dining experiences of my life. The staff not only corrected the mishap but elevated it, showing the kind of warmth and generosity you rarely encounter in food service. I left with a full stomach, a sugar-crisped grin, and the unshakable conviction that I’ll return soon—though next time, two LA Cannas will be mine, and mine alone.

I actually love Cheba Hut's food. I also like that they give back. However, I am horrified that they are donating $100k per year to the biggest scam in cannabis social justice- Last Prisoner Project. There are so many other grassroots organizations that you could be supporting where the money goes directly to the prisoners. Please stop donating to them!

Before you throw money at Last Prisoner Project, here’s a reality check on where your donations are really going:

SKYROCKETING PAYROLL
Their 2023 IRS Form 990 reveals:

$1,345,995 spent on salaries and wages — up nearly 65% from just two years prior.
That’s almost half their annual budget going straight to payroll, not prisoners.
Source: 2023 Form 990 – Financials
VERY FEW RESULTS
Despite raising millions and branding themselves as the leading voice for cannabis justice, their actual impact is minimal. Many people still incarcerated for cannabis have never heard from them. Families have reached out and received no response. Some of the few people they list as “freed” were already being worked on by other advocates, lawyers, and grassroots groups — but LPP was quick to slap their logo on the win.

Taking credit, not taking action
LPP is well-known in advocacy circles for showing up after the work is done — taking credit for hard-fought releases they barely contributed to. Meanwhile, formerly incarcerated advocates doing real, direct work are overlooked and underfunded.

Delicious toasted subs, and many to choose from, a little pricey but not outrageous, You can also have a beer or other drink if you like. I don't appreciate asking for a tip when we go to the counter to order, but did leave a small tip at the table because our food was brought to us.

It was the best sandwich I have had in years. The nachos were amazing also. Great job and thanks for feeding my fat self.

I love EVERYTHING about this place. Best subs overall in general. I love the bar for the quick drinks and they have a great selection. Everytime I go the people are awesome and the food is always on point. I get the Jamiacan Red Blunt (trust me) and a grape koolaid! The perfect mix!

If you love unapologetically flavorful food with a fun twist, try Cheba Hut. From a sandwich FILLED with cheese to a thai peanut, they've got something for everyone. Their desserts are HUGE and tasty when you've got the munchies. The staff is super friendly and helpful to explain the options. The music is a bit loud.
