Been dining at Matta's since the 70's. I'm afraid the Matta's grill is not quite as popular. Not sure if it's the location or the prices. We dine there 5-6 times a year because they are a little pricey.
The food is good but way over priced. That's probably why it wasn't busy at all. I mean 20 bucks for 2 tostadas not with beans and rice and a small drink. It's not a table service restaurant by any means. We had 5 in our group and the total was over $130. For a step up of filibertos. Well, they did use glass plates maybe that's why. ?
We shared a Taco Salad ? ?! It was SO good! Our Waitress was VERY attentive. The food came quickly, very little wait time.
Have been eating at Mattas since 1967 and I can say it has the best food that we have ever had.

I have been eating at Matta's for about 25 years. It was our favorite for a long time. Then they closed down the original restaurant on Main Street and opened this one and one in Mesa Riverview. The Riverview location is now closed as well. The food at this location is still good. The "experience", however" leaves a lot to be desired. The bench seat covers are ripped and taped with cheesy duct tape. The look horrible. It was a cold day when I was there. It felt colder in the restaurant. I was freezing and I don't mind cool temps! I glanced at the thermostat when I walked out and it was set at 63 degrees. If a restaurant doesn't care about the comfort of their patrons why should you go there? You shouldn't, and this was probably the last time I will go to Matta's. What a shame.
This is nothing like it use to be. I was looking forward to a great meal. Was very disappointed after paying 56 dollars for myself and 2 children none of us ate our food. Will never go back and do not recommend. Even the building and set up is usually uncomfortable.
Parking: No lighting outside.
Always delicious??. Love the food. The ?tacos are amazing!
Marta's Mexican Grill has been my families favorite place to eat for over 50 years.
Food was alright, it's not what it used to be, but the service was excellent. They are no longer charging for a small cup of salsa with your meal(at least they didn't me) but the prices are astronomical compared to other restaurants but no one has their salsa. Best stuff out there, if you want addictive salsa go to mattas order a 32 oz cup and a huge bag of their delicious chips and have at it.

Extremely good food. I miss the old location off main in Mesa. Best chili relleno I've ever had, get the number four.
The food was okay, but the atmosphere was horrible. Furnature falling apart and being held together with duct tape. There are no wait staff anymore, you order at the regester and pay up front, then go find a seat and they bring your order out. They charge you for exta bowls of chips and salsa, and again no wait staff, you have to fill your own drinks and get your own silverware ware. When you pay before you get your meal, the reciept has a big section for a tip, as if you were being waited on, which you are not. Matta's used to be a nice place to take the family out for a enjoyable evening, now they are just another fast food dive. I'm sure the original founders are ashamed.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great!!!! The salsa was awesome!! Will definitely dine here again. Thanks Matt's for a great dining experience. CL in Mesa
Food was great, service was great. I miss Matta's. Yes this is not the original and I guess the Matta's no longer own it but it was still great. I worked at the original back years ago when my 21 year old was just a little one and I could not wait to return to Arizona to go to Matta's. I even ordered salsa and hot sauce online from Matta's a couple years ago for my family for Christmas (yes they loved their Christmas gift!!) and I had it within a couple days. I absolutely recommend this place!! The plate with the burrito with no sauce and rice and beans is the child's meal. It is huge. The girls split it and took food home.
Matta's used to be a great place to take the family for a delicious Mexican food meal. Now, it's a great place to take a wealthy family for a mediocre Mexican food meal. We used to take our family of six there every month or two. Now, I'd say that because of the prices, they fall into the "special occasion" rotation. $$$
