Well, after many years, hanging and consuming BR coffee, I got charged for no wanting ice. I have been getting all kinds of drinks, especially my cold brew nitro. To my surprise, after all these years, they charged $2+ if we do not want ice. It is a cold drink, I do not need more ice, I want to enjoy the flavor of coffee and NOT water downđ¤Śđ˝ââď¸đ¤Śđ˝ââď¸ I wish they would explain to me first. The cup does not fill all the way with the product anyway because of the foam.
It's very ridiculous.
Service is a 5 âs, but for this time they fail to communicate first.

Somehow this Black Rock Coffee location is able to hire the most pleasant, courteous, and really fun employees. Even new employees quickly learn customer names and their preferred drink. There is one negative to this place, and itâs not the employees fault. But coming to this location in the afternoon can be frustrating because they only have one employee working. Wait times to get a drink can get way too long when its busy. If youâre in a hurry, afternoons at this location can easily delay you.

Staff are great but not enough of them. Person on til has to break off to fill orders. This isnât the fault of the 3 people working. Another 1 or 2 staff would get people served in good time instead of waiting for 5-10 minutes for the server to come back to the till.
Coffee & drinks are good. Place is clean and atmosphere is nice.

The Black Rock Coffee on 116th & Shea Blvd would not serve a truck drive because the OPEN lobby was closed at 6:40 pm and we would need to go through the drive thru. I advised that we could not go through the drive thru in a semi truck. I asked if I could walk to the drive thru and the server said yes then proceeded to ignore me at the window as she locked up the lobby at 6:45 pm. (Ah; a semi truck would not fit through the drive thru.) It is ironic that the same business that relies on semi trucks to deliver their supplies would ignored a driver because a server wanted to close early. Shameful.
I usually donât feel the need to leave reviews, but I feel like someone in leadership should realize that this BR locationâs efficiency and bare minimum service are critically lacking. Throughout the last 4 weeks or so, I have noticed the drive thru line was noticeably slower. I attributed it to seasonal population increase at first, until recently: A few days back, I sat behind 2 cars before me in the line, both of which appeared to order one or two items (once they FINALLY, after at least 10 minutes of waiting, received their orders. I sat in the drive thru line for (this is rounding down) 20 minutes and as a result, I was late for work (As in, running to clock in, disrespecting a paying clientâs time, apologizing profusely and risking my job late for work). I understand that i am privileged to even have the capacity to complain about this, and I could have chosen not to stop for coffee, but I work three physically demanding, often late night jobs. I left 15 minutes early for a 27 minute commute because I planned to hit the drive thru. There is no reason, other than a car breaking down in the line or a critically uncontrollable emergency, that anyone should wait that long when they are 1-2 cars away from the window. Additionally, they were not taking orders at the speaker, nor was the line staffed to take orders before hitting the window. I recognize staffing shortages happen. However, management is failing when they arenât willing to step up and fill in for their establishmentâs employee retention failures.

Iâm usually a fan of Black Rock Coffee, but my recent experience left a lot to be desired. I placed my order at the drive-thru, and after repeating myself three times, it seemed like the person taking my order still wasnât quite getting it. I understand that mistakes happen, but it was frustrating to have to clarify multiple times for something so simple.
When I pulled up to the window, I mentioned that I had a reward for a free drink and intended to use it on one of my three drinks. The barista scanned my card, waved me off, and I had to remind her that I had two more drinks in the order. She seemed confused and even asked around to figure out who took my order, since it didnât even show up in the system. She addressed me as âloveâ several times throughout our interactions which made me vastly uncomfortable, i understand the importance of connecting with customers- but when addressing someone âfriendâ or their name should suffice. When I finally got my drinks, they werenât even what I ordered and werenât the sizes Iâd asked for.
I get that things can get busy, but the lack of attention to detail and the difficulty in getting the correct order was disappointing. this is probably the third time ive had an issue with this black rock location and it truly just left a bad taste in my mouth as a barista myself witnessing such a lack of leadership and carelessness

âGreat experience today I never really have been to a Black Rock before. The barista helping me, his name was Zack was super friendly and recommended me my new favorite drink. Will definitely be coming back!â

$6.00 for a matcha drink that tasted like a cup of whole milk with green food coloring... Gross. Also either the intercom doesn't work or the employees (who are white teenagers bc that's all they employ here) will purposely have you waiting in the drive through menu until you speak up. It's either that or the camera doesn't work. Or it could just be the employees are taught to be selective about who they greet and receive orders from ?

The coffee shop itself is nice, clean and the staff is friendly. The product is ok and a little overpriced. Additionally itâs impossible to focus when they have hip hop music blasting. I would come here more often because itâs a cool spot but impossible to focus on work.
The other thing I donât understand about black rock is why they close at 7 PM. I would say they should least be open till 9 PM. Would be a great spot to go in the evening to hang out, relax and have a warm beverage.
This is why everybody in Phoenix goes to coffee rush .
