Like any veterans organization, this hold place holds some truths to the beat up beliefs and assumptions but it so much more than that. For comparison, I'm 58 and served during the 90"s. Did not join until 2016. Was out driving around one night and saw this place and went in. Was greeted by Tommy, God Bless his soul, gave me the layout of the land and I knew I was home. I agree with some of the past postings that it can at times be unwelcome and a place for old fogies. You do need to be a member to walk in or have a member bring you in. And yes, you can then play bar bingo, yahtzee or Queen of Hearts or any of the other games and drink till you are out of money. The music is getting better and more relevant. Progress is slow when the membership is 70% Viet Nam vets. I love these vets but it's only natural that they like the music they like and the post run the way they like. Times change and so must the post if they want to survive long into the future. We want and need the younger under 40 vets to breath some life back into this post and keep it the Best Damn Post in the West.

My wife and I plus 14 of our good friends attended the 2020 Valentines Day celebration at this great American Legion Post. The buffet dinner included a prime rib station, salmon, vegis and dessert. The music was provided by Abby Ray and Sandi, they were excellent so we dance the night away! We had drinks, great food and wonderful music at an exceptionally low cost! The staff and members are welcoming and the title of the best in the West is well deserved!

God bless our older folks but this place is a nursing home. Same thing week in, week out. Same boring entertainment constantly. Veteran service organizations are dying and they wonder why. They also wonder why younger veterans are not joining. They will not change with the times. For the price of meals (which are good) and the entertainment there are many more options with value in Scottsdale. The American Legion is a great organization and do great work. I will choose to support veterans any way possible. However, I will not waste my time here.

Where to start! Great location and the food was outstanding! I had the french onion soup! Delish italian hoagie! Nice big bar! Steaks! This location has the fortune of a true chef! Bernard is the man! He served 22 years in the Marines (thank you for your service sir) and was a White House chef for many years! So glad I came!

BAR BINGO.... BEWARE! The first few times I visited for bar bingo, everyone was very pleasant and friendly. Tonight I visited for the regularly scheduled bar bingo and was informed that I was no longer welcomed to play the game at the bar unless I was a member. You see just last week I tried to play the bar bingo at a table vs. the bar and was quickly invited (and encouraged even) to sit at the bar. During my past visits no one has ever asked about my membership - I'm not a member. Seems the rules change week-to-week. I guess it depends on who the bartender is.... Tonight was not a pleasant experience and I won't be back! I'll take my money elsewhere!

Had a very enjoyable time at this post. I was in Phoenix area on business and stopped by. Bartenders were friendly and the food was excellent. If you're in the Phoenix area I recommend you stop by this post.

I was on vacation in Scottsdale and spotted the American Legion Post 44 from across the street. Took a walk over there and just happened to meet the friendliest people on earth. The food was superb, the drinks excellent and all at an extraordinarily low cost. I will make sure to stop back on my next trip. Thank you to all who have served this great country.

A friend picked the Old Town Scottsdale AMVETS to celebrate their birthday. I'm stunned to report how delicious the prime rib was. No joke, mouth watering delicious. (I shudder to think how ginormous the larger portion might be.) The place was *jammed* with families. The regular menu offers a robust day and evening set of options. Good stuff to find so many friendly faces. Note: Popcorn is free. Come ready to man the old school popcorn maker. I watched an ittie bittie older woman man the station. She was serious. The rest of us were not. This is seriously a good place to visit when in town. They had live music and a great beer selection. Thank you for the hospitality!

Friendliest post in the west !! Visit Scottsdale every year, and have made this our home away from home. Great, fun time, nice staff and members, and always something going on. Bingo, dinner, music and Happy Hours. If you are a vet, or related to one, do yourself a favor and stop by. New friends are just around the corner...God Bless the USA !!

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother because she is not a yelper. Here are her comments: On our recent visit to Scottsdale my husband and I visited to post 44. The patrons and bartenders were super friendly and made us East Coasters feel welcome. I would recommend both young and old visiting this post. The drinks are cheap and there is gambling! It's a good place to go to get a drink and make some friends. It's not called the "best damn post in the west" for nothing.

A great place to relax and visit with Veterans of my era and the younger ones. Wonderful bar and service and can't go wrong for a good reasonably priced lunch. Try it it you will like it. William

A great Legion Post, excellent reasonable food, very congenial members, always make you feel welcome. Always a pleasure to come here. The menu is great, there is music, special events, and terrific cocktail prices. A top notch American Legion Post! Their chef is terrific! Can't beat the steak sandwich, the Reuben, the fries, the soups, for lunch. In fact I have never had a bad meal here. It may not be haute cuisine but the friendliness the reasonable prices and the very nice patio, by the way, make this an A1 Post!!!
