Walking into Chula Seafood, South Scottsdale, delivers a cool SolCal vibe, complete with the ska punk sounds of Sublime.
I ordered the Thursday special — the whitefish club sandwich, $24 — and upgraded the order from a bag of chips — as recommended by the super friendly woman at the counter — to include a cup of clam chowder for an extra $3, which was, perhaps, the best-tasting I've ever had. Hot, fresh, excellent. Super good.
I appreciate the attention to detail in which the whitefish club was presented in tooth-picked quarters with layers of whitefish salad, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado aioli on multigrain bread.
Two major things would improve the sandwich to take it to the next level: Avoid toasting the bread to an ultra-hard crunch of a thick hard cracker and over-frying the bacon to a nearly-burnt crisp.
I wish I could post a 4.5 stars, because everything else about this visit was very good. I will be back.

I really do miss my relaxed life I had in the Tempe/Scottsdale area and I want to thank Chula Seafood for being part of it. I really wish I was in the Scottsdale area again so I can just enjoy some great seafood and have great conversations with friendly people! It's not fair!! Love their lobster rolls, sashimi platter, and spam musubi! Both of my experiences that were short but significant, was a blast!! I miss them all!
If in fresh, delicious fish in Arizona, this is where I go. This restaurant is tiny (there are other larger locations) but within 5 min of my work, I can't pass it up. Their fish is brought in fresh from CA and it really shows. It's a family-owned place and they are super friendly and customer oriented. My friend asked if anything was gluten free and they were extremely helpful with her choices. The food came out quickly and it was beautifully presented (I forgot to take a pic). Everything I've tried is amazing.

As much as I despise social media sometimes I do have to thank IG and my algorithm for showing me this place. Wanted to try it for some time now and today I had the chance. Service was amazing, the two ladies running the place were so nice and helpful. The food was soo good. The poke bowls are amazing and the portions are extremely fair. But what got me was their lox and bagel. I’m a sucker for a good lox and bagel and it was delicious! Please open up a store out here in south Chandler! It’ll blow up I swear!

Chula is a wonderful place to get fresh fish to take home or grab lunch. The environment is clean and comfortable. I have been coming to Chula for years and I wanted to take a moment to share a thought I have had more than once now.
I ordered a shrimp cocktail for $22. It only came with 5 shrimp. I had to clean 2 of them because they were still dirty. The shrimp should have been perfect at that price. Also, I was disappointed there weren’t at least 6 shrimp. It just seems stingy. The prices of the smoked fish are very high too. There are competitive restaurants around the valley serving larger portions for less or the same amount. I also visited later in the day and would have thought the employees would have offered a deal on the remaining fish, as I’m sure they wanted to sell it that day. Overall I felt jipped buying 5 shrimp for $22.

The atmosphere is very nice and airy, with lots of natural light. The staff is excellent. They were extremely friendly, stayed on top of our drinks and were polite and upbeat! I highly recommend the sashimi salad. The fish tasted fresh. I will definitely give this place more business whenever I'm in the area. ??

This place came at the recommendation of one of my dear friends in Scottsdale. He said this was one of his most favorite spots and has some of the best seafood. I was very excited to check it out! Was a bit surprised when pulling into a strip mall… a very unassuming spot… I was pleasantly surprised by our experience. We were warmly greeted and elected to sit outside and enjoy our oysters and our spicy tuna bowls. There isn't table service. You order at front, and they bring it out to you. The tuna was delicious / fresh and was perfectly accompanied by great veggies. You’ll be pleasantly surprised on your visit to Chula!
I go to the location in midtown and love it. Passed through this one months ago and was very disappointed. Fish and establishment looked old. It just got cited for poor food handling practices and lackluster seafood.

Went here on my birthday! Food was fresh, but I didn't expect their spice for sashimi bowl to be so spicy that I couldn't really enjoy flavors of the dish as much as I wanted to taste. Space was small between seatings. Otherwise, staff were super friendly, fresh seafood, and great food, Im definitely going back again! Highly recommended!

I had an amazing experience at Chula Seafood recently. The seafood was cooked to perfection and was exceptionally fresh. There was a wide selection on the menu, and the personnel was knowledgeable and kind. It was a pleasant dining experience because of the lively yet informal atmosphere. I heartily suggest Chula Seafood to everyone who enjoys seafood!
