De Babel is, without a doubt, one of the best middle eastern restaurants in the valley. I’ve tried multiple items from their menu, and they’ve all been absolutely flawless. The falafel sandwich is my particular favorite! Their food is fresh and vibrant, and everyone on their team is always very kind, polite, and smiling.
Update June 29, 2024: Their falafel sandwich is still hands down the best in the Valley. De Babel is an absolute gem!

Wonderful food and staff! Seems like a family affair and all are making the best food for us to enjoy. The portions are enough to share and the quality of the food is outstanding. It’s a busy place for sure. Great for eat in dining or take out.

For lunch, I Ordered a chicken shawarma lunch entree with tabuleh salad. The cashier asked I wanted a pita, I thought why. (99% of the time when you go anywhere, it’s either in a tortilla or pita on the side ESPECIALLY when you order an entree or plate. )
all looked good and fresh. Beginning to eat to go. Later realizing he asked , “pita?” bc it’s not included but never told me it’s separate. I’ve been to dozens of places where a pita is included but extras will cost you. Understandable.. Price for a shawarma SANDWICH with it in a pita is like $9 The tabuleh salad like $7. My entree was like $16/17 So how does that make sense.. my “entree” Was a bowl of chicken and salad, thats all you get. I’d much rather have a pita. But just tell the customer, not included. I don’t really care about the $. more frustrating about going back in to buy a pita id that there’s a line 8 people ahead.. I said screw it. And all the food had way too much lemon.
Hope I circle around to try it again with different

Okay the discussion is over! This is the best chicken shawarma in Az! This is real middle eastern food they been have Amba! Owner and staff are awesome! 10/10 will be eating here for lunch often!
I've been coming to De Babel for a few years and usually am not alone. This is because it's one of the spots that I bring other people to because 1) It makes me look like I know what i'm talking about when it comes too food and 2) It's one of the best places to eat in Arizona.
But last night I was alone, for once. The restaurant was packed with people and the only table I could find was the one next to where the delivery drivers pick up their stuff. But as I sat down I realized this was the best place in the restaurant.
I don't want to go into the sensory experience of how amazing the food smells.
I want to talk about how impressive the team at De Babel is. Most places really abstract away the team behind a wall, or it is a kind of 'after thought' to just getting a great meal. In most places the waiter is the indicator of the quality of the restaurant because you simply can't see the rush of the kitchen, and the effort being placed into making you something.
De Babel is something different. One thing that you'll notice coming back here many different times, at different times of the day, at different times of the year, is that the team is pretty much the same.
At this point it's also clear that they're a well oiled machine, in a killer flow state kicking out some of the best food that you'll have. On this particular night it was fascinating to watch how this team was able to pick up on things that needed to get done in the kitchen. No fighting, no arguing. In fact even in a really busy situation it looked like everyone was having a pretty good time, and the food 100% reflects this.
As someone who builds teams for a living it's great to watch this group work together to make something that you don't really see a lot - consistent, high quality and amazing food.
I'm updating this review because I want to truly recognize how impressive this place and team is. Thank you for the last few years of great food, friendly service and amazing experiences.
