Love this shop! Consistently the best selection and fairest prices of golden and silver age in Arizona.

FWC is the best comic book store in the state and one of the best I’ve ever been to anywhere. The owner, Bill, is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and a pillar of the National comic book community. The store is very well kept with a great display of new issues, a huge selection of back issues, CGC books, supplies, art and statues/toys/funkos. The staff there is also exceptional offering assistance and great conversation to all who come in.

Exceptional quality of fish. Really delicious preparation. The smell as you arrive was clean and fresh - lesser restaurants often smell of fish or frying. An unassuming family owned sushi restaurant in an upscale shopping center with basic decor but many Japanese diners. As a world traveler I know this is the kind of place that is common in Japan and much more typical than the dressy restaurants here in the US. Service a bit slow but it was exactly the lunch rush. Will definitely make this my #1. Thank you.

This was my second time to this place and it is one of my favorite sushi places of all time. The fish is so fresh and the specialty rolls are actually special. In an unassuming Arizona strip mall sits this little piece of heaven.

My wife and I dined here for lunch and the quality of the fish was on par with any sushi restaurant in the world. The Bluefin tuna was nearly as delicate as the Toro. The Tempura was prepared skillfully, resulting in light but crispy coating on the shrimp and vegetables. This place is definitely worth a trip and is a great value.

Hands down best sushi ever. Never disappoints. Try a variety of things, sushi, rolls, appetizers, dinners. Good variety.

The sushi here is very good quality but not the best I’ve had. The problem I have with this place is that it costs a lot of money but the atmosphere is almost cafeteria like. The server had no idea of about gluten free options. If it weren’t for the sushi chef, we would have had to leave. Even with that, the server brought out two dishes that I couldn’t eat. The restaurant gets a lot of rave reviews, most of which it deserves in terms of quality fish. But, it’s way overpriced, and combined with the stark atmosphere, not worth it to me. Pure Sushi, a bit further north, is far superior and has about the same quality sushi.

A group of friends (6) and I visited Hiro at 90th & the 101 in Scottsdale, AZ on a Saturday late afternoon in August, 2021. We arrived at 17:00, opening time, and were seated immediately. I'll cut directly to the chase... The service was slow, probably because by 17:15 the place was packed. It seems the behind the bar stool counter the Itamae (sushi chefs) were all continuously hard at work, and seemed to be pacing themselves. But the table waitresses appeared to be under staffed. and visibly scrambling to serve the diners. The food was good, but very slow coming, as were the drinks. Getting a second drink (saki or beer) was painfully slow and actually required multiple requests. The ambiance is typical for a sushi-type restaurant. But the noise (chatter and table noises) was extreme and certainly annoying. Overall: Was it bad? No, not at all. But combined, all observed categories were what I would describe as "average sushi house" quality. One downside aspect, the prices seemed to be excessive. My bill for 1 small saki, 1 small beer, small California rolls, and a simple "two-entree dinner" was $50.00. But one of the things that was somewhat irritating was the configuration of the bill. A "Service Charge 18%" was automatically added to the bill. But then they added a blank line for a "Tip". So the uninformed diner may actually be paying both a 18% Service Charge and an 18-25% tip. Seems to me that's eliciting double dipping... Lastly, it is strange to me that the proprietor has not taken ownership of this Hiro restaurant on TripAdvisor? My credo: They can't fix it if they don't know it's broken". Will I / we be back? Probably not... as there are numerous Sushi restaurants around Scottsdale that are open opportunities for a better dining and less expensive experience.

A friend just advised me that she bought a house in Scottsdale. "Wow, that's the home of my favorite sushi bar", I said. I'm from the SF Bay area and we certainly have many good sushi choices here. As a corporate pilot, I travel internationally, and sampling sushi on expense account is one of my favorite pastimes. In 2006, I flew some folks to a convention in Scottsdale and looked for sushi offerings there - not expecting much in the desert - Suguaro or Rattlesnake sushi? I found Hiro, a traditional looking place, and challenged him with my "test request", yamakake! This is a Japanese grated mountain potato with tuna, which is not, normally, appreciated by Caucasians, because of its slimy texture, AND it is labor intensive to prepare. A lot of reviews on trip advisor are by folks who usually want some kind of a roll, which is the U.S. sushi normal A year later I returned to Hiro. I sat at the sushi bar and, after a time, I felt ignored. Suddenly, without ordering, I was presented with Yamakake - Hiro remembered me!!! Now, that's a traditional Sushi Bar!!! I've been back many times since. Great fresh traditional sushi - if you want BIG California rolls, go elsewhare.

My wife and I love sushi restaurants and we went because it was close to OdySea Aquarium and had great reviews. We had the diamond back roll, crazy roll, and sea eel Nigiri sushi. The diamond back roll was average and the sea eel was good. The crazy roll caused both my wife and I to have stomach cramps. We have been to sushi restaurants in Tucson, Phoenix, LA, and San Diego but this has to be our least favorite of all the ones we've eaten at. The atmosphere is great but I would recommend getting sushi elsewhere if you can. Also, the food was pretty expensive for something that we didn't enjoy that much.

I picked up the hobby of comic collection late last year, and from the very start they were very helpful with information about the comics, everytime I come in they say, “hey nick” which feels very amazing to me that they took the time and remember my face and name and has made me happy I do business with them, I got a lot of keys from them at a steal price for the comics I’ve gotten, selling and buying process is very easy either way and they have a wide variety of selection, they are THE comic store to go to in Phoenix, and if you’re traveling from far away I promise you’ll find something you like, I have not left empty handed ever. Thank you guys for all you do and the countless help and support.

Hidden gem that took us years living nearby to discover. So glad we did as this will be our new sushi go to. Legit!

Both the seafood and the sushi are very fresh. Many choices for fruit and desserts. Customers must wear gloves and masks to get food, which feels safe.
