SumoMaya Reviews
SumoMaya profits from the torture of animals. Foie gras, an item currently on their menu, requires force feeding ducks with metal pipes multiple times a day until their liver becomes 10x its normal size. This practice is archaic and has no place in any restaurant in 2024! Please find some compassion and implement a foie gras free policy now.
We had a reservation for 6 for a birthday dinner; called to change it to 10 and were suddenly inundated with crazy rules. Hostess said ‘we have lots of availability,’ but said there would be a $1,000 minimum and a $25/person charge for anyone that had to cancel. In looking at their menu, a minimum of $60 would be reasonable, but $100?? For entrees that average around $25-$30?? Spoke to a manager, and they would not waive this ridiculous requirement. SumoMaya is a restaurant that offers a unique and delightful dining experience. The menu features a mix of Asian and Mexican influences, giving it a diverse and interesting selection. Customers often praise the food, presentation, and atmosphere, considering it one of their favorites in the greater Phoenix area. The staff is friendly, and the service is generally spot on. However, some guests find the restaurant noisy and packed, making conversations difficult, especially with loud background music. The seating arrangements and layout have received mixed reviews; the patio can feel cramped and uncomfortable. Despite a few drawbacks, many guests describe their visits as memorable and flavorful, making SumoMaya a popular choice for those seeking a lively and tasty dining experience.
The pomegranate guacamole is outstanding, and the Ahi Tuna Tostada is a must-try. Guests have found the edamame to be a bit heavy on the seasoning, and recommend asking the kitchen to go lighter. The avocado fried rice and yakisoba noodles are satisfying main course options. While the food is great and the service excellent, the environment can be very noisy, making it difficult to hear conversations. Guests have found themselves needing to raise their voices to communicate with their table companions.
