I've had better strip mall sushi that doesn't include the insanely high prices for what you get, and the depressing fake Asian environment full of snobby Scottsdale dorks who think Scottsdale has the best sushi anywhere. If you want my opinion, there are better places for more quality + price sushi.

What a find! Chef Mo had received in a large cut of fresh blue fin tuna toro. I recommend the toro and Japanese uni handrolls, they are amazingly delicious. Prepared just so, they melt in your mouth. A must if you are in the area and enjoy great sushi.

Chiwawa .

Mo always does a great job!

Hands down the best sushi in Arizona.

I've been coming to this place for years. Rarely do you have to wait for a table or a seat at the sushi bar, but that doesn't mean it's not popular or good. The sushi is as fresh as it comes, tastes delicious, and the chefs are all friendly and very skilled. Great atmosphere too. Come As You Are!

Absolutely fantastic!! If you are looking for a true authentic sushi restaurant, this is the place. We've had sushi throughout the valley and Toyama is by far the best. When I eat raw anything I look for quality, freshness and experience...And that is exactly what you can expect at Toyama.

Went here on a Tuesday at 5pm (which is when they open). The place was empty. Staff was friendly. Sat us at a table. Ordered a sushi combo to start. Presentation was nice. Was supposed to be three pieces of three types. For some reason the salmon pieces were cut in half. The next three nigiri order didn't arrive for 15 minutes. Both chefs behind the counter were watching tv. The scallop nigiri were almost room temperature. The rest of the orders were paced the same way. Eat a few pieces and wait while the chefs and I made uncomfortable eye contact . At the end, the bill was over $20 more than what I would normally spend for similar content. I know sitting at the bar should get me orders as I finished. However, things like the spiralized daikon being wet like it had been sitting in water led me to believe that the chefs were done prepping for the night and wanted to do the minimal amount of work.

Can't say enough about this place. Super fresh, high quality fish is simply amazingly. The best sushi, sashimi anywhere. Try Omakase (chef's choice sashimi), Toyama special roll, Tuna tempura roll. Non fish diners have Kobe (best ever!), pork katsu, mixed mushrooms. Really, anything on the menu won't disappoint.
