Mariposa – Latin Inspired Grill in Sedona was a great experience! I went during sunset, and the views were absolutely amazing. Later in the evening, the fire pits and fire decorations created a beautiful and cozy atmosphere. The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, and the ambiance was elegant yet relaxing. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. A must-visit spot in Sedona for great food, drinks, and stunning scenery!
I am so dismayed to have to write this review after giving the restaurant management TWO opportunities to recitify this awful dining experience. I am merely going to describe the faults with the food, service and management in this review as they overshadowed our over $700 night. The reservation was made months in advance and confirmed for 5 pm. We were not able to be seated until 5:15 pm with no explanation as to why we were kept waiting while others, including a walk in, were seated before us. Our food arrived tepid, including 2 orders of lobster mashed potatoes at $48 and trout dinner. I sent back those items, others kept their food. The mashed potatoes arrived back halfway during the meal. For others to consume. My trout and plate did not arrive back until after others at the table had finished eating. I ate my dinner and now tepid lobster mashed potatoes alone. As I was eating, the plates were cleared and I was left with the family staring at me while I finished by myself. No apology from management and a full price bill was presented. I wrote to the restaurant and they replied that they would look into the service and food temperature. After days went by, I wrote again and received a reply that they would look into the service and food temperature (again!) and said to call in advance next time to alert them that we would be comiing. Not acceptable. This review is long overdue after I awaited two proper replies and/or compensation from management. Save yourself the ruined evening, lack of attention tepid food and huge bill. There are too many awesome restaurants in Sedona to frequent this one again.
Our family of 10 chose Mariposa to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Although they said they can't accommodate parties of 10, they promised to set us at 2 side by side tables. Upon arrival, they recanted and sat us at 2 tables separated by another table, a total of 20 feet from our other family members. When we attempted to show them over unoccupied tables that would accommodate our group. they flatly refused and all the way u to the manager complained to others about our requests. Ou server, Clair was great. The food was inconsistent. The yuca fries are great as well as the cerveche, filet. My $60 ribeye was fat and gristle and at best, select or choice. I ordered medium rare but due to the darkness of the oo. I could no tell. It chewed like medium well. We have never been treated as rude as we were by the front desk and management. This really helped ruin our Sedona experience.
Everything was amazing Caesar our waiter was attentive and helpful on recommendations the food was perfect and the atmosphere spot on we loved it so much we attempted to get reservations again before we left but they were booked for dinner

Mariposa is a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting. Our experience there was very nice. Levy was our server and did an excellent job. Although the experience was great, our ribeye and filet were not. The ribeye was grizzly and the medium rare filet was rare. The filet had to be returned to the kitchen and came back rare again. The shrimp cocktail and lobster mashed potatoes were delicious and would order them again.

The food taste and quality was outstanding. The server knew the menu well and was able to help guide us. There was an extensive list of specialty cocktails to further add to the experience. Not to mention the spectacular view of the rock formations.

We had a really awkward experience at this place. First, we booked online because no one ever answered the phone, even after I called five times during business hours. In our reservation, we specifically requested a corner table with a double window seat showcasing the mountain views. We also mentioned this in the special request email they sent the day before our visit.
When we arrived, the host tried seating us in a random section. We explained our request, and she acted like she couldn’t find the notes. Then suddenly, she “miraculously” found them but said she couldn’t seat us there due to a note on her computer. We asked for the manager, who claimed the owner had left a note preventing us from sitting at the table. After a few minutes of back-and-forth, the manager finally seated us at the table we originally requested, calling it an “upgrade,” which made no sense since it was the exact table we had reserved and no one else was using it.
Before leaving, the manager said he’d assign us a senior waiter, which felt like empty hospitality lingo. It was clear the staff hadn’t been doing their job—whether it was not answering the phone or ignoring reservation notes—and then tried to make it seem like it was our problem.
As for the food, the empanadas were good, but the steak wasn’t quite a true medium rare—it landed somewhere between medium rare and medium, not bloody but still chewy. The anniversary dessert was the highlight of the meal. While our server was fantastic and the food was decent, the overall experience was disappointing, and we wouldn’t go back.

Food and ambience were 10/10, I mean you can’t beat that view!!! Service on the other hand, was lacking. Our server really didn’t give us the time of day and pretty much rushed us out (put down the check without even asking if we wanted anything else). Meanwhile watching him give ALL the service to older couples around us. Thoroughly disappointed in this as this dinner we were celebrating our one year wedding anniversary and wanted to enjoy a special dinner, not to mention our first time in Arizona as well. Due to this experience we will likely not be back if in Arizona again. As a couple who worked in the service industry for many years, there’s more to serving than just taking an order and clearing plates. The bussers and food runners were killing it though, so huge shout out to them! I hope Mariposa takes this advice and learns not to judge a book by its cover.

Me and Beautiful Wife traveled 2 hours from Arrowhead to try the food and celebrate our Tenth Wedding Anniversary. We arrived in Sedona by 11:00 a.m. and ate lunch at the Vault restaurant located near by.
We had a reservation for 4:00 p.m. at the Mariposa for dinner but around 1:30 p.m. we decided to change it to 5:00 p.m. We received a confirmation email that confirmed the change.
We arrived at Mariposa at 5:00 p.m. only to find out that their system did not register the change in time for our dinner reservation. The young woman hostess appeared to be polite by stating they have been having that problem with their system adjusting the change in reservation. But she gave off an innuendo that suggested she did not care to accomodate us with a table inside the dining area and placed us in the outside area even though she recognized the mistake is with their system. We were placed directly in the blinding light of the sun with zero relief because we were told their shade did not work.
It was me, my Wife and my 3 year old son. The food was nothing to brag about. The mac and cheese was without flavor and had no pop. The steak and potatoes was the same. The chicken and mashed potatoes was also poorly seasoned. The empanadas were a total disgrace. My wife is a Latina and I can cook myself. I can tell you that I am no chef but every meal we had here at Mariposa I can make it 100 times better than they can. I am not a person who uses salt and I dont eat food out of cans or processed foods. But I can get a wayyyyyyy better tastier meal anywhere in Downtown Phoenix, Glendale, or Tempe than what I tasted here. I could've went to Wren & Wolf, in downtown Phoenix, Or Tia Carmen in Scottsdale (Now this is a latin chef whose meals will burst in your mouth), or even Caracara in downtown Phoenix and saved myself the drive. I Would've got a beautiful well decorated setting and DELICIOUS FOOD especially at Tia Carmens!!
None of these meals are even close to being worth the cost of what they are charging I mean not even remotely close. I do not mind paying for great food and good service but this was like getting a meal from Panda Express and even Panda Express food got this place beat hands down!! Easily. The extra slap in the face is on the bottom of the menu it says as of September 4, 2024 they will add a 3% fee due to the rising costs in food or something like that. Now keep in mind they get food from their own little garden they have out front, and they also buy wholesale so they are paying way cheaper than what the average consumer pays because they buy in bulk and inflation is not even really happening and its really greedflation given the tax breaks businesses like this made from the last administration. So on top of these ridiculous prices for food that tastes like it can be served at a stree vendors food truck. This owner wants to charge an additional 3% !!! Your food is basic at best and bland!! This owner is really only getting rich and she knows it!! These meals are only worthy of being sold on a Food Truck at best!! Tiny empanadas that have zero taste!! Our bill was around $230.00 and we gave a tip which I personally don't like doing. The waiter charged us for one of the desserts that I was told would be free since it was our anniversary.
The scenery is beautiful but THIS PLACE IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT FOR THE FOOD. If you think the food here is really good then your taste buds are shot or you grew up in a home where no one knew how to cook. You can get these views at most of the restaurants in this area of Sedona. The Vault has food that beats this menu. The Mariposa makes at least $300 a table per night since most people buy alcoholic drinks (we dont really drink, my Wife had a mimosa or something like that). This place is a total waste. I suggest you travel two hours going in the opposite direction to Tia Carmen or Wren & Wolf and tell me what you think. If your
