We recently moved to the area and decided to try this place out with a friend. The food was good enough even with well done burgers (we weren't asked for how we liked them cooked). We had a waitress who wasn't a waitress and proceeded to tell us that multiple times. Menus were forgotten, drinks were forgotten, and food was forgotten throughout the entire experience. Our friend received a burger 15 minutes before we did and was able to eat the entire meal before we were able to start. The friend also asked for chips and salsa while we ate and that just never showed up. The food was good enough and the service could be forgiven (even though it was beyond excessively bad). The final point is me and my finace ordered two burgers and two alcoholic drinks which came out to 90 total (including a regular tip) which is highway robbery. The person waiting on us also noticed the reaction to the bills but no concessions were remotely attempted. At this point there is no redeeming quality to be found and we will not be returning. Avoid this place.

Enjoyed the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Absolutely flavorful sandwich with sweet potato fries. My only complaint was the three over served customers at the bar. Otherwise the staff were great and service was amazing.

1.5 hours to get our food with extremely rude waitresses telling us it is not their problem. Don’t come here unless you have hours to kill

Just aweful experience here. The server kept yelling “WHAT” at us, she leaned over and got her hair in our food and drink. Then told us to suck it up. Our first plate of food came out, 40 minutes later our second came out, 20 minutes later our third came out, 15 after that our fourth came out. Absolutely astonished this place is still in business. Avoid at all costs, you will be vastly disappointed.

I live nearby and heard about this B&G. Came today, Friday, Nov 7th for lunch. I ordered their hot dog 🌭 - Chicago style - with french fries, and a coca-cola. The hot dog was not a true Chicago style hot dog as the best they could do for peppers is Peperoncinis. It was fare, and a decent frankfurter. The fries were a generous portion, and good. I also ordered five chicken wings (honey hot) to go for later. They looked fairly good. Served with ranch; but you can order bleu cheese if you’d like. The bar is dimly lit, and a bit awkward with two different sides to sit at the bar; tables; or booths. They offer patio seating as well. The bathrooms are outside and around the pro-shop… somewhat clean, and very dim. This is a nice stop before starting the back nine, or if you’re looking to grab a bite. Note: a customer next to me was having some kind of Buffalo chicken on flatbread. It’s not listed on the menu. Service was fine. Parking is adequate for a golf course, but might pose a challenge if very busy. My tab came to $19.40 after tax.

The hot dog brand escapes me. It’s not all beef like Vienna, Kosher’s Best, Hebrew National, and Nathan’s. I’d score higher for a better quality frankfurter. Might I suggest contacting Vienna Beef who’d provide quality meats, and condiments — including sport peppers?

Okay, hear me out. I’ve lived in Surprise for many, many years and have been pretty much everywhere sports bar/grill wise. Yet I’d never been here until today. It is open to the public but does give off the impression of older community with the gated area etc. however you can reach the restaurant before getting to the actual community entrance. Parking was no issue, but layout was a bit odd. Signage did direct us to the bar. We arrived of seat yourself signs. One side is TVs and more restaurant vibe and other bar are and a few other tables. It’s dark, a bit dingy looking and definitely could use an update. Our bartender came over quickly and gave us some menus to look over after asking us if we’d like to order food. I was surprised to see quite a few craft beer options including not one but two sour beers on tap. I was a bit more impressed with that. She let me sample both and after choosing one she let me know it would be free since they were out after that and couldn’t fill it all the way. Score. However both our beers came out in plastic cups. While not the worst option I’d of preferred a chilled glass. We decided on a club sandwich with waffle fries and a side garden salad with ranch. It all came out pretty quick. Sandwich was good but basic. Fries could’ve been a bit crispier but still good. All utensils were plastic throw away items. Salt and pepper in packets. They definitely don’t want to do dishes here I guess. Good was a bit pricy, but beer was priced great. Service was ok, but the younger girl with the glasses helping put things away was the friendliest and has great customer service and welcoming vibes. Lastly the restrooms aren’t even inside the restaurant we had to go outside and around the front of the opposing building. Odd layout. All in all I’d say about 3.5. If you’re local and wanted to walk over for a drink and quick bite or are playing the course it is a decent stop, but could definitely improve. I’d come back to try something else.

Food is okay, no atmosphere, and be sure you get there early and get out of there by 6:30 PM or so, because they start mopping the floors and it smells terrible!

Kid-friendliness: I live in happy trails and every time my grandkids come to visit they ask for their chicken tenders and fries.

I have owned in Happy Trails, Surprise AZ for over 13 years. Our local Great Eagle restaurant bar used to be the place to go for breakfast , lunch, or dinner. There was tons of bar and beer specials and many TV’s on, with A variety of sports channels. It was absolutely excellent back in the day and we would ask our friends and other family to meet us here for a variety of functions. The outside seating was clean, (no bird defecation) and the center breezeway was beautiful and full of visitors, all hours of the day and evening. Over the last six years, I have seen a serious decline in outside cleanliness and attention to detail in the food preparation. It depends who the cook is now, whether you get condiments or pickles with your meal. If you ask for a burger or cheeseburger, you have to specifically ask for mayo, pickles, mustard, and ketchup before you get your meal . Usually, you have to ask after the fact for a second time for mayo, ketchup, mustard, and fry sauce. The outside of Great Eagle restaurant bar is unfortunately embarrassingly disgusting now. Every one of the cushions is completely covered on both sides with bird defecation as well as several of the concrete areas that our tables are located. Most of the garbage cans are at least half, to completely full by mid day and at least 20 cigarette butts covering the top of every ‘sand’ smoking containers. Unfortunately, the last couple of years the center breezeway has been off limits due to construction, but we rarely see anyone working In the construction areas. This used to be a desirable place to be from both of our perspective (my wife and I). We were proud to bring our families and friends to Great Eagle restaurant but now we now go to Arizona traditions, which is a volunteer bar and it is very clean and there is no bird defecation. If the Great Eagle owners and or managers cared to make more money or cared about their reputation they could clean up the outside, replace the cushions, take out the trash and cigarette butts and it would make a hugely positive difference. There is enough room both inside and outside of the establishment to host live bands like the local bars. Great Eagle would make a ton of money on the retirees and local people that used to love this restaurant bar. I am extremely saddened with the downline of this establishment, I used to brag about it, but now I just tell people to go next-door to Arizona traditions or any other bar in the area area. It is absolutely unfortunate how the owners have let this go. It wouldn’t take very much to bring it back To par, I just don’t think they care unfortunately. This is my honest opinion. We used to love this place but now it’s gone to bird crap-literally.

The appetizers are good, and the portions of the main meals are generous. Has a local vibe; not a chain restaurant vibe. Everyone was friendly. Will definitely go back!

I'm so disappointed. This could be such a great fun sports bar. With the Happy Trails Retirement Resort right there, this place should be busy and a hopping place for the retirement residents to come enjoy the sports games and a few cocktails. The food used to be good, but questionable now. It stinks like old rancid grease, it feels cold and uninviting with the concrete floor, horrible wobbly tables, and hard uncomfortable chairs. The service is slow and the servers are more interested in gossiping among each other and they kick you out at 7;30 whether you're still watching a game or not. We stopped last night for a quick drink at 6pm on our way home to Happy Trails and was immediately told that if we were there to watch the Green Bay/49ers game at 6:15, we would have to leave because they would be closing before it ends. We said ok, but could we at least a have drink before they close. They did serve us, but what an unwelcome greeting. I will really think twice before stopping here again. What a shame for all us Happy Trails residents.??
