Rods is a great small town steak house experience. We eat there every year when we visit. It's closed now, and we were disappointed we had to go elsewhere. The other places just don't have the vibe that Rods does. I hope they re-open soon.
I was up in Williams Aug 26, 2022 and the marquee said “closed, for sale.” I was heartbroken. I hope someone can save Rod’s as it’s been around since 1946 and four generations of my family have dined there. Four stars based on my last meal there about a year ago. Save Rod’s!!
Attended a buddy's retirement dinner. He was told that our group could not be more than 10 due to COVID limits. We were actually in a room by ourselves with no other diners. The requirements and accommodations MUCH appreciated.Sorry, no photos for this review, but trust me the prime rib was done just right (ordered "as rare as you can make it") and the au jus was probably the best I've ever tasted. The baked potato was not quite to perfection but good. (I almost never let a potato go uneaten and this was no exception)This is a locally owned business that is doing the best it can during a 100 year pandemic. They've been in business for 75 years and with a little luck and continuing patronage, they'll be around for at least 75 more.
The best steakhouse dinner EVER! The food really made from scratch and the steakhouse has quite the family history!
Great steaks!! My wife and I went with our 4 kids under the age of 10 and we had a great time!! All of the steaks we had were awesome! The chicken tortilla soup was great and the rolls were great! They seem a little short staffed but they did awesome for what they had to work with. We will definitely revisit if we ever make it back to Williams.
The steaks and prime ribs were all over the place on doneness, everyone ordered medium rare, and only one of us got that. Other people got well done, and some got rare. One person's steak was blue it was so rare. I was chewing every bite of my prime rib for over a minute. The meat was also very fatty and not high quality. The service was pretty good, so I gave a couple stars for that. Also, they don't take reservations and when we showed up with 10 people, they split us between tables and we weren't able to push tables together.
My family planned a trip to Arizona to include a visit to Rod's Steakhouse in Williams Arizona. We reviewed the website to find out they were closed on Sunday so we revised our trip to make a stop on Wednesday. The website specifically says they are open from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. everyday but Sunday. Pulled up at the restaurant at 1: 15pm to find the restaurant closed. I called the restaurant to see what time they open and the gentleman I spoke with said they open at 4:00. I have eaten at Rod's Steakhouse many times and I'm very disappointed that the website listed the incorrect hours of operation.
excelente servicio y deliciosa comida un excelente lugar para comer .
Our daughter recently visited from out of state and wanted to celebrate her birthday at the Grand Canyon and stay in Williams. For her birthday dinner, the first place that came to mind was Rod's Steakhouse. My reason was not unselfish. I had previously had the pleasure of dining at Rod's Steakhouse with my grandparents way back in 1975, when I was about 13 years old. Back then, when you're a kid, being in a steakhouse with the adults was a very special thing. Rod's has maintained a tradition of quality food and service while staying reasonably priced. I can safely say that after all these years Rod's is still special! Our service was good, but our meals were amazing and cooked to order. The ribeye was delicious! Although it's not a popular dish, this is one of the few places that serves Liver and Onions, which my wife had and was amazing. My daughter and her husband absolutely loved the place. Rod's is a tradition and landmark in Williams. Definitely well worth it, and I won't wait so long to come back!
So on our way home to Missouri my wife of 33 years and I decided to see the Grand Canyon so we spent the night in Williams AZ. So after she saw the little red bull in front of Rod's steak house we had to eat there. I am 53 years young and for the first time in 34 years I have had the pleasure to eat a sweet dinner roll that tasted just like the recipe that my mother in law passed down to my wife!!!! Great rolls and the prime rib was excellent as well.

I know an old steak house like this was probably amazing at one time! However...Ribeyes were so fatty, under seasoned and had a strange soft texture (freezer burned, defrosted, tenderized, boiled then flash grilled?)Baked potatoes were rock solid burned at the skin (2 or 3 days old and re-microwaved or sitting in a warmer?)Salad was freezer ice cold, wilted and spotty old.Rolls were dry, crumbly, rock hard half way through and unevenly warm (old and microwaved?)$80 for two Ribeye dinners and 2 drinks plus tip. Kind of bummed, won't go back if we travel through Williams again. There were a few cars leaving when we pulled up so we thought they might be good. Should have read the reviews before hand, recent reviews seem to have had similar experiences. I usually don't post any negative experiences but the food here was extremely bad and I think management should know. They can make it better. I can tell the wait staff cares, they were all polite and attentive. Going out for steaks is pricey and this was just not worth it at all.
Sadly, this place is getting worse with my every (almost annual) visit to Williams, and it's not just the bad cooking. They get the orders mixed up and wrong. Service is sssslllooowwww. Rod's used to be great in the past. Something happened more recently, like within the past decade, and it's just sliding down. It's very sad when classic establishments on Route 66 get new owners and the new guys ruin the joint. The new owners sometimes just use the hype and fame of the place, and don't actually bother to put in good effort. The Rock Cafe and The Big Texan, for example, are both doing great. Rod's? Not so much.
Had the filet mignon and new york strip. Both over cooked and not much flavor. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t great. A little disappointing for a place that’s been in business for so long. Seems like most things came from a freezer bag, like the salad and jalapeño poppers. The service was good though. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. The inside is cute and western themed.
3 of our party had prime rib and they were all extremely fatty and not cooked to everyone's tastes. 1 person had the sirloin and it was over cooked. 1 person had the fish and it was very bland. They don't have cheese for the baked potatoes. They biscuits were delicious, but were ice cold and the butter was frozen. The best thing were the french fried potato wedges.
This is a great steakhouse. The service and ambiance was amazing. The food was seasoned very well and was delicious. Try this place out! You won't be sorry
