Our recent stay at Alert Bay Lodge on Cormorant Island was a highlight in so many ways—an experience we’ll be talking about for a long time to come. The lodge itself is full of character: a beautifully converted church warmed by a wood-burning stove and adorned with local art and artifacts that celebrate the rich history and spirit of Alert Bay.
But what truly made our stay unforgettable were our hosts, Nicole and Al. Exceptionally kind, funny, and knowledgeable, they also happen to be two phenomenal chefs. We came for the culture and coastal views—but we left raving about some of the best meals we've ever had on holiday. Their cooking is the epitome of comfort food done right—flavourful, creative, and expertly executed. Every component of a dish was a reminder that we were in the hands of pros.
And bonus points for the playlists during our stay—they perfectly represented the vibe!
Look no further for your accommodation and dining while visiting Alert Bay. Something tells me this is just the beginning for Nicole and Al—this lodge is well on its way to becoming a destination in its own right.

My company booked me here for aprox 3 weeks. The place is gorgeous, with all the cedar walls and ceilings and I loved the decor. They have a lot of local artwork on display and many artifacts for you to view. The bed was very comfy, and the room #4 I stayed in was large with lots of room. In room medium-sized sized fridge, table & chairs, comfy in room lounge chairs and a nice deck to enjoy views and fresh air. I was here to work and didn't have much down time, but when I did It was so relaxing. I loved the pace of the island and the friendly people. There is so much nice scenery everywhere with a huge abundance of Bald Eagles everywhere to watch. I very much enjoyed my stay here, and the hosts made it feel like home. Highly recommend staying here if you're ever on the island and looking for some great R & R.

We had a wonderful stay. The outside of the building does not do the inside justice. The interior spaces at the Lodge were gorgeous, from the magnificent beams in the common room to the beautifully decorated guest rooms. The beds were very comfortable. But the true experience was in the time spent with our host, Scott, who made us feel welcome and at home. I would absolutely stay here again.Rooms: Beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable.Nearby activities: The Island is rich with indigenous history and culture. Everything is in walking distance from the Lodge.

When we arrived we were greeted by the owner, and shown to our room, which was clean and tidy, with a rustic west coast flair, a covered deck that overlooked the ocean in cabin #4 didn’t disappoint. We were then given dinner options and other information regarding the things we wanted to see and all was very knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast was included which was an added delight. The lodge was warm and welcoming and we would absolutely stay again.”

Yes, this is a long review, but this spectacular experience can't be summed up in one or two words with so much to offer ..read on, you'll see. Go visit and you'll understand.This is one of the most spectacular places one can experience. With views that are breathtaking. It's a smaller capacity lodge. However, it provides such diversity in their room options that one could find all they, their family, or a couple seeking a romantic getaway could want or need.Your furry family members also have an accommodating two rooms as well as a fenced green space to have a safe off leash experience as well..Very thoughtful addition.For those seeking whale watching and having an immersed experience, this is the way to go. Incredible.Staff friendly, kind, efficient, and welcoming.Don't forget to look around the island as their are multiple historic sites, museums, world tallest totem pole, walking trails, and the feeling of being surrounded by beautiful nature.You'll find little gems, or the lodge staff are more than willing to share with you in order to share the islands full experience.Last but not least, amazing food, comfortable nights, sleep, breakfast included,or if you choose to make some meals in your suite, you have that option.Love, care, and attention to detail have been poured into the Alert Bay Lodge.Also note: ? Don't count them out later in the summer heading into fall as their climate tends to be in a different pattern than Vancouver or the main island so you can still enjoy sunny days, occasionally live music and an unforgettable submersion into the oceans beauty right from the lodge outside inside or from your ocean side room.Just check when whale watching expeditions end as the ocean can't be relied upon past a certain date. This lodge on the Alert Bay Island is so cozy and comfortable we didn't want to leave. The common area is so welcoming and really makes you want to read, write and drink a lovely cup of tea while enjoying the incredible view of the ocean. The room was old fashion, but also very comfortable and clean.The breakfast prepared by Señor Pablo was super delicious. I enjoyed the homemade sourdough bread immensely. We really wish we had more time there.
