Are there new owners at this restaurant? It use to be so good….. haven’t been in a while so I went back today and the food was not good, so disappointing. The sushi used to taste really good and would be plated beautifully and today I had a bland roll thrown on a saucer. The waitress was nice but unfortunately I wouldn’t go back there and eat again.

I don't usually give low ratings, but the chicken katsu was a letdown. The breading was far too thick, drowning out the actual meat. The portioning also felt unbalanced, with a massive amount of fried chicken compared to a tiny serving of rice and salad. I'm providing this feedback hoping the recipe can be refined. However in terms of customer service everyone was super polite and staff was friendly and the atmosphere and cleanliness is amazing.

Ordered food on door dash. food said it was going to be ready in 40 mins, got there in 40 mins and then had to wait another 30 mins because “they didn’t have chicken teriyaki”. Food was good but service was lacking.

Bland, and overly greasy, and mushy food.

So much food. The service was on time and kind. Food looked amazing and tasted just as good. Prices are fair. It's definitely one of the better sushi places in Chilliwack.

We have only ordered twice so we are at this point 50/50, the first time was outstanding, during the holidays, and last night January 17th, it was horrible. Both were takeout orders, maybe dining in is better…not sure, but consistency is key.

About 3 weeks ago my friend and I went for lunch at Maru Sushi. We were so excited that it reopened after the fire because we’ve been going there for over two years, that was our go to place for lunch. We were really disappointed with the service last time and the food wasn’t quite up to par but we figured hey, we’ll give them another chance.
So my friend took me out for lunch there today. The service sucked. We felt like two seniors who might as well have been invisible. Seems things have changed since the fire. They use to always bring you water right after you got your menu. If you had green tea they would always check and see if you would like more hot water for your tea.  They no longer do that. Nobody checks in with you to see if everything is ok or if you need anything. That’s a very important part in restaurant service. Once our food hit the table we never saw anyone again. I do give their Miso soup and Tempura a thumbs up but they’ve changed their absolutely fantastic salad dressing to something not noteworthy and the sushi, hmmmm…… something was different, it tasted bland. And finally we had to hail someone down to get the bill which my friend paid for up at the counter.
Unfortunately this is no longer going to be our go to place for lunch. What a shame.

The food is absolutely tasteless. In the “Crazy Girl” roll with smoked salmon, there’s almost no salmon at all. Just look at how much imitation crab there is compared to the salmon — the piece is literally only a couple of millimetres thick. Where is SALMON, Maru Sushi? :)

Been going here since 2013 but the last visit will be the last visit. Server very dismissive, kitchen staff won't substitute anything in the dinner boxes, which has never been a problem before. I am guessing new owners. This used to be a hidden gem, definitely not anymore! And now the owner comes on here saying I was asking for free substitutions, the waitress told me there would be a charge( even though what I asked gor was cheaper) and the kitchen flat out refused! I never asked for anything free! And eye rolling your customers when they explain they have shellfish allergy and don't want prawn in the tempura isn't a good look! Imagine lying and trying to make your customers look bad. Like I said....NEVER AGAIN! If you're going to take over a restaurant and then change everything about it...change the name

So happy Maru is open again! We ordered from a different restaurant during the closure and tonight was our first time back since they’ve reopened. Everything was delicious and ready quick. Looking forward to our next order already! :)
