Like a David Lynch movie scene on budget
When you step into an almost empty restaurant (at peak hour) it’s usually a sign that there may be a little something not completely right… Well, after a long drive, with two starving teenagers, you don’t really care about those details and you decide to sit down, despite a bad feeling. That’s when things start to go south. The waitress/co-owner/probably wife of the other co-owner was polite, but she seemed so tired and disillusioned as she handed us the menu. Another hint: when a simple pub has a menu the length of the Trans-Canada highway, it is rarely a good omen.
After a detour by the washrooms (the Men’s were fine but the Women’s were…) which did not exactly trigger our appetite, we decided to go for what seemed like the safest bet: A cheese sandwich and 3 pizzas (1 cheese and 2 pepperoni’s). Our assumption was that the pizzas had a 99+% chance of being frozen and therefore relatively safe.
After a (very) long moment, we finally got our lunch: the most basic frozen pizza you can imagine (probably a few dollars at any supermarket) as expected and a cheese sandwich that was literally 2 slices of grilled bread with one (maybe two) slice of industrial melted cheddar (most likely some sort of ultra-processed food resembling Cheddar from afar).
We ate (did not finish though), stood up, went directly to the counter to pay and drove away… The whole experience was a bit surreal. Definitely not recommended.

Traveling through & stopped on our way to our destination. The service was subpar however the food we had was delicious! We stopped on our way back knowing what to expect from our server but decided the food was worth it. Service was even worse than the first time.

Driving from McBride to Kamloops along the Yellowhead Highway, we stumbled upon the ‘Old Caboose Restaurant’, a charming family run diner, and fell in love with it instantly. The lady graciously seated us next to the window. The place was full.

Curious after overhearing a local lady—apparently an ardent fan of the Caboose’s Punjabi samosas—we too ordered a plate to go with my beer. The food was excellent, local beer was great and the portions looked generous from what we saw being served to nearby tables.

I’d gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through.

Cheese on the nachos was cooked to a hard brown and the pizza was soggy...the top slid right off, not the right way to make pizza!!! Blah

We came in on a very busy night of August long weekend. The veal cutlets were perfectly breaded and cooked to a golden crisp, served hot and tender with rich, savory gravy. You could tell they were made with care, not just thrown together. As for the meat lovers pizza — it came piled high with generous portions of pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon. The crust was just the right amount of crisp and chewy, and the cheese was bubbling and golden. Easily one of the best pub-style pizzas we’ve had in a while.

What really made the visit memorable though was the owner. So welcoming and genuinely kind — they made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time in. It's rare these days to find a place where you feel so at home. We will be back

Stopped in at the Old Caboose for dinner and I’m so glad I did. The place has a relaxed, family vibe and the service was great—super welcoming and quick without being pushy.

I ordered the Seafood Fettuccine, and honestly, it was amazing. Shrim, Prawns, Scallops, Crab tossed in a rich, creamy garlic sauce that hit all the right notes. The pasta was cooked just right and the seafood tasted really fresh—not overcooked or rubbery like you sometimes get. Every bite was packed with flavor, and I didn’t want it to end. My husband had the fish and chips Golden Crispy Batter

Portions were generous too—I was full but still tempted to lick the plate. 😄

If you're in the area and craving something hearty and full of flavor, I definitely recommend trying the seafood fettuccine. Old Caboose knows what they’re doing, and the chill atmosphere makes it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.

This is going to be a rarity for me - a critical review. But I have to write.

The place was nearly empty so getting a table was quick. But then the waits started. Wait for water and menus. Wait to have our order taken. Wait forever it seemed to get our food. We didn't wait for the bill - we just walked up to the cash register. I think we had been there for 90 minutes by the time it was all done.

Allegedly, they are breaking in a new cook and that was given as the reason for the delays.

The food was not good. None of us enjoyed our meals. A couple of our guys had upset stomachs after. And I am absolutely sure that my pizza was a poor example of a store bought frozen style. Some frozen pizzas are good. This wasn't even close to good.

One of our party had to use the men's room while we waited for our food. He strongly suggested that we walk back to our motel room rather than use the men's room in the restaurant which he reported was not clean.

Here's hoping they get their act together and find a way to survive. But until then, I think you should dine somewhere else.

Sat at the Pub bar and waited a full 15 minutes only to be ignored. Only 2 tables occupied with 2 people each, and server walked past me 3 times, but said nothing. She disappeared for the last 5 minutes I waited, so I took the hint and left. Worst service ever. Score minus 5

The food was ok. My ceasar salad had way much dressing. Service was very bad as they were only 3 tables with people. We won't be back and I'd advise you fix this before you get more bad reviews.

We had a plate of nachos to share and they were okay. Nothing special. The waitress was very casual, quiet, almost too much so.
