Who knew there are so many excellent places to enjoy wine in the Duncan area. Certainly not me. Excellent experience and beautiful patio. Lovely service and lots of parking. Highly recommend the tasting. Good prices and incredible wine maker. We will be back in 2026
Absolutely beautiful winery with great wines! Had a wonderful time here in the summer.
Beautiful setting, incredible service and great wines. 10/10 experience
The wines were fine, the service was unreal bad. Condescending, fake, unhelpful. The food was prepackaged and fine, but served in paper plates and stale crackers. Gluten free options were stale and they ran out. Don't ask the server about the wines, look at the print out they provide. I would skip for more charming places.
Not too impressed! They charge extra for crackers without stating so after bringing them over! They also advertise that the hummus is vegan but news flash: it’s never made not vegan. And they take advantage if you’re a couple and lie that it’s a shared flight but it’s not! Go here if you roll in dough! You’re better off just getting a bottle and going home! They’ll nickel and dime you here!
If you’re looking to taste amazing wines in chic’n’ shady surrounds, with mind blowing views - please visit Averill Creek Winery. Once you’ve travelled up a winding road, and welcomed through the automatic gates, you’re transported to scenic and spacious grounds that you didn’t know existed in beautiful Cowichan. We were warmly greeted by staff and seated in a stunning patio setting, shaded by trees, flowers and potted plants overlooking vineyards and beyond. We travel with two well behaved dogs, who are welcome, and were provided water as we sat. They lay beside our table, comfortable, cool and out of the way from other patrons (who did stop by for head scratches).
Our server was very knowledgeable, and we enjoyed the tasting more because of the placemats providing written notes we could refer to (and keep) after our server left. We found these very useful when purchasing our wines afterwards.
We had not booked a tasting, but we were seated without issue on an early Friday afternoon in July. A very reasonable $10 fee given our experience was truly exceptional. Our fee was refunded with our purchase, though I understand this can vary with season. There is no outside food allowed, but we shared a small, reasonably priced snack of olives and cheese.
Could not recommend this winery more, and we look forward to visiting again.
We came here during the CVWF and the wine tasting they offered is their Joue series. Compared to all other wineries for the festival apparently their quality is the worst and they gave you ‘upgrade’ option for two more higher priced glass for 5 dollar.
They claimed they are short staffed so there’s no service at all. No introduction about the wines and you just serve yourselves. It’s more like a retail store than a tasting experience.
Awesome experience and service. We had a great visit
Excellent experience! Ask the owner about his life story, you won’t be disappointed ❤️
We’ve been to Averill Creek on a couple occasions in the past to enjoy good wine with a great view, with a lovely charcuterie board and the service was really good. Until today!! We went with friends to celebrate a birthday, had a table booked at 4:00 for 7 of us and was told they don’t do charcuterie boards only snacks which there were only three to choose from and if we didn’t order them right away there wouldn’t be any left…Really! The wine we had was really nice and the snacks were OK, other than serving potatoe chips as a side instead of crackers or a nice banquette to have with the cheese would have been more satisfying. The server came to pick up our plates and glasses and when we said to her “oh do we have to leave right now” …her snarky reply was..”Well some of us do need to go home and cook dinner”. Needless to say we won’t be going back or will we recommend this place.

Stunnng setting and fabulous wine
We had such a nice time on our guided experience! Highly recommend! Staff was highly knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly…thank you!
Staff was welcoming and warm. We sat on the patio which had stunning views of the valley, the landscaping is incredible, hydrangeas were in full bloom. Really enjoyed the JOUE blends. Will certainly come again!
Had a great time at the opening day wine tasting, beautiful winery and great wine! The tap room manager was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and winery. Looking forward to bringing guests here for a great time!
We spent a delightful hour and more at Averill Creek the other day, it is what wine tasting was like in Sonoma & Napa 30-40 years ago. We chatted with Andy Johnston about grapes, climate and wine making, and with Adrienne Gilbert the tasting room manager (an exceptional member of the winery staff) and one of her trainees about the wines we were enjoying, especially the Pinot Noirs. The grounds and facilities are beautiful, but it is the wine and the people who will bring us back. Well done.
