Unfortunately this place has seriously declined since my last positive experience 6 years ago. The Pad Thai was bland and served over a wilted piece of lettuce. The portion size has remained generous, but the amount of chicken was paltry. Service was good, but most worryingly the bathrooms were absolutely frightening. Cobwebs all over the walls, the floors absolutely filthy. The other restroom was filled with mosquitos suggesting that they're breeding from an unknown source of stagnant water INDOORS! The restaurant is showing signs of serious neglect and I will not be coming back until it gets itself back in order.

If you want Bangkok street food, this is the place for you. I've been to Bangkok, and this place is legit.
The older I get, the less spice I can tolerate, medium spice was too much for me. Next time, and oh yes there will be a next time. I'll stick with mild.
This is my goto Thai when I'm on Duncan, it's a hidden gem on the main drag.

Ordered delivery for 2 people. Came to $60.00 and there was enough food to feed a small child. The hot sour soup, with 1 piece of squid had no noodle or rice for $20.00. The satay chicken, $19.
00, was 4 tiny thin pieces of chicken and less than average taste. I never write reviews, but this was so pathetic, I had no choice.

I got the Pad Thai, medium spicy. Green onions instead of Chinese chives. No pickled radish, no dried shrimp. Not sure but it didn't taste like palm sugar either. Weak tamarind flavour, needed more sour. Lime wedge was obviously cut a day or two ago kinda dried out. The spice was dried red peppers. No fresh birdseye chili (which I think is a better option, even if not strictly traditional). The portion size was very generous. Noodles had good texture, decent wok hei. Bean sprouts had a solid crunch. Overall, ok, but bland.

Service was friendly and polite.

For atmosphere, this could be a hole in the wall kinda place if the person cooking cared more about the food.

We have been regular customers for over a decade. We have never had a bad meal. Every meal has had quality ingredients, nicely cooked, with flavours we enjoy, and the spice levels we like. The service has always been prompt and pleasant.

So why am I rating Phad Thai Duncan only three stars and not five stars? Why do I rate “service” three stars when I compliment the service employees?

Not because of the considerable price increases in recent years but because of the unpredictability of its openings. I consider advising customers accurately and in advance of closures to be part of the owners’ “service”.

Several times in the past I have checked the website to make sure Phad Thai was open for dinner, only to arrive to find locked doors. I pointed this out and was told the website would be corrected. Months later the inaccurate information remained. It appears that the “solution” has been to no longer have a website.

During the autumn of 2024 I repeatedly went at lunch time only to find the doors locked with no explanation. Nothing on the website… not even a handwritten sign on the door. Only the painted sign showing the lunch hours. One evening during that time I pointed out the problem to Erin, a member of the family, who said he would correct the website that evening and put a sign on the door. Neither of these occurred.

In mid-December 2024 we asked about holiday hours and were told the restaurant would be closed on Christmas Eve, on Christmas Day, on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Other than that it would be regular hours. On December 26 I phoned before going for lunch only to be told they were not open for lunch but would be open for dinner..

On December 28 I drove to Phad Thai to order takeout dinner, confident in my decision, only to find a handwritten note saying the restaurant was closed that day.

Despite the high quality of the meals and the pleasant service by the employees, I have to rate Phad Thai lower that I would like to because of the inconsideration shown to customers by randomly closing the restaurant with no updates on a website or on the telephone outgoing message, the inaccurate information on the signage, and the inaccurate information provided to customers.

I still recommend going to Phad Thai to enjoy the food and the service from employees. Just be prepared to be disappointed by finding the restaurant closed when you least expect it.

The gravy of cashew chicken was really good but the fried rice was burnt, very less chicken pieces in rice and curry.
