Ford's Cove Restaurant

Our family has had wonderful experiences dining here multiple times. The staff is friendly and hardworking. The food is delicious and the fish and chips are the best on the island. And beautiful view of the ocean! Top it off with a walk along the rocks and the whole family has had a great time.

The food is excellent. Very high quality pub food, which I traditionally am not fond of, but was very pleased. Halibut and chips, cod burger and fish cakes, all were absolutely delicious (and fried in clean oil). The chef clearly cares and serves the best in class.
The service was very funky. We arrived and sat at a table, there were 4 others. I tried to catch the servers eye, which I believe she saw me a turned away to chat with the other server behind the bar. A few minutes later when she turned towards the room, I tried again and she just waved me up to the bar. It felt very unwelcoming. Up I went and she explained I have to order/pay up there. I went back to our table of 4 to take our order, but had to remember it all (maybe they should provide server tools so we can do a better job). But the food was so good, we went back the next day too. We were the ONLY table that day, but still the servers stood behind the bar. I ordered at the bar stuffed peppers, calamari, fried egg rolls, fried pickles and falafel - again all excellent. Margaritas and caesars in a can, was a bit funky too. When the food arrived one popper dropped to the floor and she said she would replace it. she dropped off our food, we had no napkins, no cutlery, no plates. It was so funky. When she returned it was one popper in a dish (was it just put in a new dish?) and when she saw we were using the table to put down a 'too hot' popper, she said I guess I should have brought you plates. Which she did - plates and napkins but no cutlery. When you pay in advance, they want you to tip in advance too (starting with 15% with increasing options). It was so funky - twice!. And if you want water - go get it yourself. The prices did not reflect the lack of service.
Oh and the view is stunning.

6 of us dined here May 14, 2025. Friendly, welcoming and quick service, open and airy layout. Our halibut fish and chips were cooked perfectly, and our friends also commented very positively on their meals. Highly recommend this restaurant if you stop at Hornby Island. As well, the store below has a surprisingly good selection of groceries and hot takeaway pizza.

Fantastic location overlooking the cove, and very friendly service. We all enjoyed our meal and would happily return.

Lucky enough to be here when the sun was shining over the beautiful mountains and ocean view. Service was excellent as our food was delivered quickly and there was frequent follow up to check on how we were doing.The cod fish and chips and veggie burger with side salad were delicious. Prices were very reasonable, too. Highly recommend a visit. Come early if you want a table as it’s a popular place!

My review echoes much of what has been wrote here before… beautiful space with decent selection of food and drink - lots of potential! Cannot beat the view. Saw lots of sea life while sitting at our table.

But service was very lack lustre (we witnessed a strange conflict between staff/ local business person and were told they don’t serve coffee after ‘brunch’ though the waitress was drinking one). The space could also use some personality.

Best fish wrap ever. Service here is excellent and everyone was so friendly. The views though. Incredible. Can’t wait to come back!

It is a new building with a fabulous view and tons of potential. A few things were less than good. The menu is limited and for some reason you cannot get both salad and fries along with your fish or burger without paying for an expensive extra salad. If dining as a pair a solution might be for one of you to get the fries and the other the salad and divvy them up. In addition, the patio umbrellas cannot be adjusted to shade you from the setting sun, if you are eating at that hour. They bring the meal to your table but you have to order at the bar. Full table service and a better menu could turn this into a really wonderful place to eat.

Great new modern restaurant with good food and good service and an amazing patio deck with ocean view over the cool rocks. Plus easy parking and nice bathrooms...What more could you want? Yam fries were great and so was the pulled pork.

Great location. Beautiful view of the ocean and mariana. Food was very average. Had the fish and chips and crab cakes. Batter on the fish was nice. Fries were good. Cole slaw was disappointing. Crab cakes looked burnt. They were not, but the oil was clearly not fresh oil. Upon arriving, we ordered before we sat, paid before we sat, and were also prompted to pay and tip before service. Prices were average for this day and age.

Fantastic place to enjoy the view. Great atmosphere and great food. One of the best on Hornby. I was surprised by the low rating so trust me when I say disregard! In reading the poor reviews it’s all entitled and disgruntled people who simply can’t do anything without complaining. I mean seriously.. someone gave a 1 star review because they tried to change a diaper ON A TABLE and other patrons and staff took issue with it..? Of course you can’t do that here! WTH!! Anyways.. absolutely fire establishment enjoy and be happy!

What a stunning location! My burger was fresh, the bun was soft and delicious. My husband’s crab cakes were freshly made in house, and side salad was simple was ridiculously delicious. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner as an option, oh and the staff were lovely
