Going up island? Stay on the #1 right through Nanaimo and stop at Alice’s Restaurant. You will find it upstairs at the far end of the Value Lodge, west side of the highway. I have been there twice now and it doesn’t disappoint. Interesting atmosphere with huge plates of very tasty food. Just look at the pictures! The size of those pancakes! You are looking at simple breakfast orders for 3 ladies. If you have young children don’t order them meals. You will be able to feed...

It truly seems like this one gentleman serves every table by himself, no matter how busy it gets!! He's really impressive. And has a quiet, dry sense of humor that makes the experience at Alice's complete. The food is always good. The portions are huge and the restaurant has lots of nice big booths.
The bathrooms are down a couple of staircases, unfortunately. But they are clean. That in itself is another bonus.
