I have recently discovered that COBS’ Cape Seed Loaf is less a bread and more a subtle interdimensional trap designed to ensnare the weak-willed, carbohydrate-prone organisms of planet Earth.
The loaf itself is described as “nutty, full of texture, and packed with the nutrients of nine grains and seeds,” which is exactly the sort of innocent understatement one might expect from a product that clearly contains some sort of gravitational anomaly. You walk in planning to buy a loaf, but inevitably you emerge with two, because you’ve convinced yourself — quite reasonably, you think — that this time they will last four days.
They never last four days.
In fact, they rarely survive two, vanishing mysteriously, slice by slice, as though eaten by a small but determined black hole living in your kitchen. You cut one slice for a sandwich, then another to “even the edge,” then another because the loaf smells like emotional stability, and suddenly half of it has gone missing under circumstances the scientific community refuses to investigate.
The texture is so spectacular — crunchy, seedy, wholesome — that you begin inventing errands near COBS just to “walk past,” which is like walking past a tractor beam and hoping it won’t notice you.
It notices.
Before long, you’re the proud, slightly ashamed owner of yet another Cape Seed loaf, fully aware that your household consumption pattern defies every known law of physics, nutrition, and common sense.
In conclusion: The Cape Seed Loaf is delicious, dangerous, and should probably come with a warning label or a support group. I’ll be buying two more tomorrow. They’ll be gone by Thursday.

I can't stay away once I walk by to the bank have to go back and get a cinnamon roll unless the free samples offered are better that day. Always something different. Staff are amazing

Very disappointed with the front ladies’ attitude towards me when I used a coupon from Community Values Book - pay at least $15 to get a free loaf. One lady even stared at me and made me feel awkward.

We really like this bakery. There is definitely a difference between the North end location and this one.

The young lad that works the front counter gets 10 stars. Very well spoken and engaging. Great customer service from him as well. Glad you came from Edmonton to BC

COBS Bread is our go-to bakery!
We’ve been buying from them for over 3 years now and honestly, everything is always super fresh and tasty. Their mini pizzas, tarts, buns, and croissants are all packed with flavor — perfect for a quick snack or lunch treat.
We’ve tried a bunch of their breads, and some of our top picks are the fibre loaf, sourdough, multigrain, and Turkish bread. The focaccia is also amazing — soft, herby, and great with soups or on its own.
The staff is always friendly and helpful, and it just feels like a place that really cares about quality. Definitely recommend checking them out if you haven’t already!

There’s a good reason, or about 40 tasty reasons, why there is a lineup before this bakery opens.

Delicious cinnamon buns.
They give you a free scone on your 1/2 birthday if you have the app and a free cinnamon bun on your birthday, it's awesome.

Fell behind making soup for a friend in need yesterday and needed a sourdough loaf for the finishing touch! Called the store to let them know I’d be there a minute before close. Not a worry in their voice and we’re really kind and didn’t seem annoyed when I got there. Great service and delicious bread. Thanks Cobs at terminal Nanaimo!
Extremely rude and ableist. Will not shop here again.
Always very friendly staff and great products
Even got a free cinnamon bun for my birthday
Good bread
Everytime i go to this store, i encounter very nice and helpful employees. Customer service is so important and this store excels at that. The pastries are also fresh and delicious. One of the best places in town. Wish it was a coffee shop!
