I live in the Comox Valley, the Columbia Bakery's brötchen aka Kristy buns and pastries are amazing. We try to stop there whenever visiting Nanaimo.

My family really enjoy comming to this amazing bakery. We tried berliner bread which is a high quality bread and delicious cheesecake. Excellent quality vs price ratio. Wish they open branch in Victoria!

I wanted to support local and was willing to pay the extra. What I won’t do is pay 35 cents extra for them to slice my bread!!!!????

Apparently walk ins are not welcome. Snow from their parking lot is pushed onto the sidewalk. Thanks for thinking of families with strollers getting off the bus.

While the baking is very good, there are some staff who are some miserable and unpleasant to deal with, I cringe walking in the front door.

Good food, but horrible service. If you’re new, the staff will judge you and your questions.
This is a ‘locals’ bakery, meaning that if you’ve been here before and you know what you want, then cool - they will be nice to you.

Possibly the rudest staff I have ever had to experience in a bakery. Thought maybe it was a one off but no. Turns out you must have to be a rude person to work there. One woman especially. Yeah, you know who you are.
Ask a simple question such as, do you have milk?, and the nasty reply is totally unnecessary. Once asked if there was a sachet of ketchup and got some pointless drivel about how ketchup isn't important to them. bizarre.
Never will I set a foot in this place again. Not a dollar more.

We ordered a few different items and all were incredibly delicious. Everyone was extremely friendly and attentive!
Very rude staff. I’ve been in quite a few times hoping for a different experience ( I’m very big on supporting local businesses), unfortunately I haven’t had one. It’s sad because they do have good bakery items. I made my last attempt and will now be going elsewhere.
Maybe some customer service courses could help? Or simply hiring people who enjoy being in customer service. It goes along way, and will help retain new customers as it seems to be a trend after reading the comments.

Oh, how we wish that the golden days of this bakery would come back! But the cake and breads are still excellent quality and we will for sure stop again before we leave the Island to stock up on bread and buns!
