Penny’s Palapa accommodated our big group on the May long weekend. Not only was our server friendly and efficient, the portions were big and the food came out quick. The rain was a bummer but with heaters and the Mexican atmosphere we barely noticed. Thank you!
Located in Nanaimo Harbor, this seasonal restaurant enjoys a fantastic waterfront setting. When I visited in April, the weather was beautiful but still a little chilly, so I appreciated that they thoughtfully provided blankets. I tried the Hibiscus Margarita (non-alcoholic) for the first time — it was a little on the bitter side for my taste, so next time I’ll go back with the Lime Margarita. We ordered the Halibut Tacos and the layered dip, and as always, the food was fresh...

The food was delicious, the service was very good and the place itself was very comfortable.
I don’t eat beans, and the staff lady who help me was kind to substitute them with a salad without any problem, I really appreciated that personal touch.
Highly recommended! If you’re looking for great Mexican food, this is definitely the place to go.
