I love this place for the authentic Chinese Food!!! They are always so kind and it’s the best restaurant in Nanaimo and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food!
This was very disappointing. Normally good but cold, bland, and pretty lean on almond chicken. Greeting at restaurant was abrupt and kinda rude
My partner and I really enjoyed the Chowmein and sweet and sour pork. My favourite Chinese food place in Nanaimo now.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I ordered combination dinner last night. The very first combination dinner.
It was chowmein sweet N sour with deep fried prawns.
Says on your website it cost
$15.98
I was charged $18.98 each for three dishes in total.
So that means $9 plus tax over charged
Absolutely the best, most authentic Chinese food in the area. I was introduced to the restaurant by a former employer, who is from mainland China herself. I’ve been a Chinese food fan for over 50 yrs- and I can’t think I’ve ever had a better meal than the ones I’ve enjoyed at Rhythm. Ignore the Westernised stuff- sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, chow mein. Instead, look at the photos on the wall over the bar area and ask questions. I can highly recommend the Fish boiled in chili oil- sounds awful in straight translation but it’s so good! You pull the pieces of fish out of the oily broth and they are magnificent- tender, tasty, not too spicy! The eggplant is spicy garlic sauce is fantastic, as is the shredded pork in spicy garlic sauce. Despite the similarity in names, the dishes are very different. The pork is lightly battered and served with similarly julienned veg in a delicate sweet/sour sauce- light, piquant and nothing like the hard fried pork balls in red jam that often passes for sweet sour pork! The braised pork belly in soy sauce is also superb! I could go on! Also, don’t order Western style with an exclusive dish per person- order like a Chinese family - 1 dish per person and 1 for the table (if you’re really hungry) with plain rice- and everyone shares from each dish - you’ll get better value for money, a more balanced meal and a better experience. I introduced my neighbour to the place last night - we had 4 dishes (including soup) with rice, ate until we were ready to burst, and each took home at least another meal each. Check it out! Dare to explore something different, ask questions, think outside the chow mein box and enjoy some staggeringly good food from an unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant.
We got eggplant with egg tofu and beef stir fry with flat noodles. Both dishes were spectacular.
The eggplant was cooked perfectly - the crispy edges were an excellent contrast to the eggplant’s soft meat. The sauce that the dish came with was also excellent.
The beef stir fry with flat noodles was equally good. Well seasoned. Not too oily nor salty.
Service was next level. We ordered and both dishes were ready within a few minutes. The eggplant dish was so hot that we had to wait for it cool down a bit.
Overall this is one of the best restaurants we’ve been to on vancouver island and a true hidden gem of Nanaimo. Genuinely surprised that the reviews for this restaurant don’t reflect the quality of food that we got - maybe menu is too large for most?
Definitely coming back - can’t recommend it enough!
Second time ordering here tonight. First time the food was completed in the time promised, and everything was hot and flavourful. We thought we had found a new favourite place for Chinese since Da Tang closed. Today, though, I placed an order to be ready 40 minutes after ordering (since I was on my way back from Newcastle Island). They called ten minutes later to let me know it would be an extra 15 minutes. No biggie. I understand it’s busy due to Mother’s Day. Well, once I walked in at the promised time, I had to wait another 30 minutes after the promised time. Food was not as great as it was seven months earlier, but was decent. May come back, but will confirm that they are not as busy as they were today.
We preordered dinner Christmas Eve for our family at 10:52am with delivery scheduled around 6pm. After more than an hour waiting for our order, plus no answer at the restaurant for us to inquire about our order when we tried calling, we thought the order wasn’t coming.
We did an impromptu spaghetti dinner. Halfway through our dinner the food showed up. Over an hour and a half late. They need a much better system. Don’t take so many orders that you can’t handle it, which results in a terrible customer experience.

What a delightful and fresh meal from Rhythm Chinese!
We ordered for four of us on the online menu platform. The restaurant didn't acknowledge receipt, but they made our food within 15 minutes, and we were on our way.
The ginger beef, Taiwanese chicken, and deep fried prawns were all fresh, nicely cooked and not greasy at all.
This is our new favourite Chinese restaurant in Nanaimo. Recommended!

I used to live in Calgary where there is amazing Chinese food everywhere. Since moving to Nanaimo I’ve been searching but have only found mediocre restaurants at best. Until I found Rhythm! These guys are the real deal. Delicious! Try the salt and pepper squid!
