Great sea food served in a semi formal setting overlooking the ocean in Nanaimo. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly with the food being served in a timely manner.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The staff always were very friendly and welcoming. Harry is a very knowledgeable and gracious server. The food was served hot and courses spaced out , we didn’t feel rushed by any means. The restaurant can use some polishing up regarding decor. Linen napkins opposed to paper. All in all we would recommend The View Oceanside Grill for a delicious culinary experience.
Took a friend there for her birthday and all was great. Service, ambiance and well... food too but... we got a side of crab legs and on the menu it did say Market Price. We didn't think much of it because that tends to be typical. However when we got the crab legs it was half side of dungeons crab, with two legs missing including the claw. (So two legs and half the body) But considering we had more food and having a good time we didn't think much of it. As I said - this was a friend's birthday - and not to be rude I didn't bother to look at the bill - just paid and left. The next day when I did take a quick look and saw that they charged $45 for the crab I was flabbergasted. Especially considering the steak and crab was $55. I called and left a message - got a call back a few hours later and was told that maybe I should email the manager if I had a complaint. So... dear manager... this is my complaint. thank you for reading.
I loved everything, great place.
Very special experience trying mussels in a nice tangy broth with an even more special customized watermelon mint drink offered by the very kind not overly young server here. The view of the ocean was memorable too
I’ve been here a couple of times for special occasions, but honestly wasn’t too impressed. The food was just okay. The presentation could’ve been better — it didn’t look very appetizing on the plate.
Made a reservation for Mother’s Day . Accepted that i was a little late in making the reservation but when i called in i was told they could accommodate. Arrived 30 minutes early and the place was 90% empty. I was originally seated in the bar at a high top table. The nice dining room part of the restaurant was literally 90% empty. I explained that we had a ferry to catch and wouldn't be hanging around. Nope, was told that the manager had assigned us the high top table and the ‘nice’ part of the restaurant was reserved (never mind virtually no one there). Next my wife had a similar conversation while i was in the washroom. Wife decided to leave. Then, after she had left i was offered a table in the ‘nice dining room’.
You know when you’re treated like a second class citizen ? It’s hard to reconsider staying there. We didn’t come back and found a plain but very tasty Thai restaurant walking distance away. Then we meandered around and spent $1300 on a piece of Native Art from a local store. Karma.
Delicious salmon and shrimp dinner! My wife's pork tenderloin was excellent. Generous portions, fantastic flavours. Our server, Harry, was an outstanding, personable host. He even suggested a couple great hikes that we enjoyed the next day.
Fantastic restaurant with super beautiful view of ocean. The food was superb 👌 and delicious. Besides lots of sea food I really recommend to try hot spinach salad. What a mesmerizing flavor with combination of spinach, goat cheese, nuts , dates and tofu as topping!! Wonderful customer service 👏 👌 👍
Fabulous seafood dinner with a lovely view of the harbour.

Great service and even better food! Our waiter was very friendly and gave us some recommendations for our meal. The calamari he suggested was indeed one of the best we’ve had. The entrees we got were all very flavourful and portions were super generous. Highly recommend!
Our small group of 3 had an exceptional dining experience at The View. The food and wine were so good, and our server was attentive, informative and entertaining. We didn't want to leave. I had the scallop appetizer, and the sockeye salmon as main. Every bite was a delight.
The view was great, they were able to give us (party of 2) a table without a reservation as we arrived before 7. They got very busy from 7. The food was really good. The seafood was fresh and I believe things were well priced. I recommend going here. On the food we had the baked seafood dip ( excellent) the salmon (delicious) the warm spinach salad with Tuna ( lite and tasty) it was heavy on the dressing so I recommend getting it on the side.
Very badly run. Ruined our family dinner in Nanaimo.
Awesome restaurant downtown
