A really interesting restaurant in downtown Nanaimo. A very quaint town on Vancouver Island.

Fresh seafood is the specialty here. With a nice view and very attentive service this restaurant is worth a visit.

The wine list is quite small, but good enough.

The seafood chowder is really quite excellent.

The fish is good. Replacing rice with some fresh made fries would be a good idea, but fresh ingredients and excellent service make this a restaurant worth a visit.

The Nanaimo bar desert is fantastic and a must.

Kris P. made our night! My dad was out of town golfing so my mom and I wanted to glam it up and go eat out. We decided on the View and holy crap were we blown away !! Not only was the atmosphere amazing but the food was phenomenal!! The best part of the evening was our server Kris. I have never been served by someone so personal and attentive. He made us feel at home and made sure we were taken care of. He mentioned he was somewhat new there but we could not tell - it seemed like he had been there for an eternity. I venture out often to different establishments but he won us over a million times over. We will definitely be going back on a frequent basis and will ensure we request to be seated in Kris' section. Top Notch ;)
My mom would write a review as well but she is not tech savvy.
My message to everyone: GO THERE !!.... and ask for Kris !
He is hands down an ambassador for the View Oceanside Grill.

Our favourite place in town, and tonight did not disappoint! Had very fast and personable service from server Chris who was warm, funny and genuine. The food was absolute perfection, and the atmosphere is the perfect date night.
Thanks for making my 35th birthday dinner so special, Chris at the View!
My husband and I had the best time.

Amazing food always!!!! Could use a fresh coat of paint and some more modern accessories but it’s an outstanding restaurant. Have never once had a bad meal and find myself thinking about their ‘Prawns Gratin’ dish and their ‘Clam chowder soup’ is to die for …. As well as their muscle dishes!! Such amazing flavour … Y U M!!! I miss this place !

Great location, definitely for seafood lovers. Saw non seafood dish on website but not many choices on restaurant menu itself. We had 2 individuals with seafood allergies and although we were told they could do a specific meal without - it still came with scallops. They were so small we didn't realize at first, not a great outcome!!!
There is only 1 waiter and he is way too busy!!!
Was expecting a upscale experience, but was very disappointed.

We came here for our anniversary, the server's were great, and the abience was excellent. Unfortunately I ordered the Lamb & Squid dish, and a ceasar salad. Within 30 minutes of eating the dinner, I got sick for 3 days, (tainted food or cooking surfaces). I did reach out to the management, but they denied having anything to do with it. Poor customer relations in my opinion when it was the only thing that i basically had to eat on that particular day.

We've enjoyed several terrific dining experiences at the View. Today wasn't one of them. For Father's Day, my wife and our oldest son visiting from the Mainland surprised me this morning as I was getting breakfast started: "Nope, we have reservations at the View." I didn't object! But regrettably, it wasn't the greatest Father's Day brunch I've had. I ordered the Big Breakfast, which would have been excellent had it been prepared properly. Both the bacon and back bacon arrived on the plate cold. The eggs, ordered over easy, were overcooked. The toast--never seen this before!-- wasn't buttered, or more specifically, only one half of the two pieces of diagonally sliced bread, was buttered, the other three were not. I had resolved not to complain, just eat, but my wife called the waitress over and mentioned the toast. So I explained. Very surprised was I when the waitress replied in a curt, even bitchy tone: "sir, your toast IS buttered." Well, I said, one piece is, three are not. So she brought me a small serving of melted butter. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? Rather than to deal with her again, I wipe clean my coffee spoon and use it to ladle the liquefied butter onto my toast and spread it around. I ate my cold bacon and back bacon, my overcooked egg, and drank my coffee--which was very good. My wife and son, who paid the tab, left the usual 15% tip. I didn't argue with them about it, but I sure wouldn't have. I can't imagine returning to the View any time soon.

Update: I messaged the View outlining our Father's Day brunch experience... seems that they couldn't be bothered to respond ???

Wasn't able to dine here on our very first visit to Nanimo. Was able to get in late on a Monday night the second time without a reservation. Amazing service, awesome food, and worth the drive from Alberta!

We really like the food here and the Australian waiter was really nice too. Also their hotel bar, which is next to the restaurant, is good. Prices are very reasonable.
