This place always brought memories of my mother buying specific items from here. The black forest cake, sausage rolls, cookies, and dessert tarts are lovely. They have been in buisness for years and they also do functions. They also do holiday pastries and it's cute. It's a great little hidden gem. The sausage roll is nice, cause I'll buy one and take a my dog for a walk. This bakery has nothing fancy inside but that's alright. They do well.
For me it’s pure nostalgia of my childhood.

I've been coming to monarch bakery from surrey and now langley for over 30 years to get sausage rolls usually around 4 dozen for me and my friends every 3 months because they're the best sausage rolls anywhere up until last Saturday. We did our usual order for 54 sausage rolls this time but the pastry on the sausage rolls had changed. It wasn't the usual flakieness but a little harder than normal. I can buy these sausage rolls anywhere the reason i came for over 30 years was because of the soft flakienes of the pastry. I hope that the new owners revert back to the pastry on the sausage rolls that everyone loved otherwise I'll have to try and find somewhere else after over 30 years. Also the vanilla slices had no custard in the middle.

Decent bakery in North Vancouver with quite a variety of donuts, pastries and rolls.

We got a few of the pastries. The cinnamon bun roll was good, but needed a bit more filling.

The donuts were average to decent. One thing that stands out for sure is that they’re nice and fluffy and soft which is great. I liked the glazed donuts overall.

this is the most BANG for your buck you’re ever gonna get. i got three items, a chocolate donut, a cinnamon bun (which was pretty hefty), and a peanut butter cookie, for literally four dollars. since it was so affordable, i was expecting the food to taste extremely poor quality, but that was not the case at all. the donut was so incredibly soft, probably softer than the yeast donut i’ve had at lee’s. the only downside was that there was basically zero chocolate filling? the dollop you see in the photo is literally all the chocolate in the entire donut—not sure if i got a defect or if all of them were like that. both the donut and cinnamon bun weren’t very sweet at all, which i actually found really nice since i didn’t feel sick afterwards. but even so, that meant it was just a pretty plain pastry, hence the three stars. but still an insane steal, for some of the SOFTEST and most cushiony and nicely textured desserts i’ve had.

The donuts and the buns were very fresh as one should expect from a local bakery. I highly recommend it!

This is an old fashioned bakery either all the predictable favourites. I drive a great distance to shop here.

I must have caught them on an off day because I see a lot of positive reviews on here, but we ordered several items and all tasted a day old and were very underwhelming. The shelves were also all partly empty and selection wasn't great.

Employee was very nice but I wouldn't go back.

I order a dozen of the gingerbread cupcakes and they were 10 outta 10 would recommend! Most icings make my teeth hurt but these were perfect and not overly sweet

Pastry dough is softer and heavier than what I prefer (I like light and flaky, or tough and fibrous when you tear into it), but if that's what you like, this is your bakery. I love the butterhorns.Day-old goods are offered.Bakery doesn't have a cooler yet, so your soda will be room-temperature.
