British Bobby was a great fish n chip go to.They had other items as well but the halibut n fries was my favorite.Sadly the little mall where it was located burned down Nov9/22
Oil was extremely old. Food came out and looked dark brown.Fries and fish were over cooked.Used to be the place to go when craving Fish and Chips for us.We will find an alternate the next time. I ly go for FnC maybe 2-3 times per year. So we were very disappointed ?
My wife & I visit this restaurant every year, sometimes twice a year when we are visiting Vancouver Island. It has always been a great place for fish and chips and other English style food. Apparently there has been a change in ownership. Now the restaurant is only half the size but the food is still good. Our only concern is over the prices. I ordered a 3 piece fish and chip dinner to go. I should have asked the price. $38.00 for one meal seems quite a bit more compared to previous visits. We have since found other restaurants we like better & will make sure we know the prices if we visit in the future.
Place is really cool, the owner was really nice and friendly. fish and chips were ok. Breading thickness was good but The breading tasted burnt and the fish inside was good. Tartar sauce was also pretty good. Played go fish with the family while waiting. Deck of cards was not a whole deck of cards lol
Had the most delicious authentic British pie with the family last night, we had the vegan option which was truly incredible. My partner is from England and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere along with the pie which comes with chips, peas or beans, and a lovely gravy. A charasmatic friendly server completes the experience and you can guarantee we will be back!
Basically pub food. Many years ago it was a great fish and chips place but no longer. The chips were not fresh cut, were overdone and tasted like wood. The fish was ok once you broke through the batter.
My husband, son and I went here. Servers kid sat with us our entire time. Tried to take food off my sons plate. Server didnt try to get his kid to leave our table. Food was overcooked and fries tasted like old fishy oil
We walked across the Hwy tonight for supper. The fish and chips were excellent and the owner took time to chat with is. He is a pleasant young man and I hope he has success with his small business.
My British husband and I stopped in for fish and chips on his birthday, and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere authentic. We'll be back next time we're on the island!
I would give this restaurant a 0 if it was available. It was the absolute worse dining experience in my whole life. We entered the restaurant and his two daughters who were approximately 10 years of age guided us to our table. They asked us about the menu and what we wanted. At first we thought "how cute" and the parents are being responsible in showing the kids responsibility. We waited 50 minutes for our meal and there were only 3 other patrons in the restaurant waiting for their food. The meals finally came and my halibut was good, but my partner's steak pie was not so much - it looked like it came out of a frozen container. While we were were eating two other separate tables of four people were waiting long for their meals. The owner apologized to them and gave them free drinks. Because we were a table of two, he didn't offer it to us. I went into the bathroom and it was disgusting - it was hot in there and a dirty diaper laid in the wastebasket and the room just reaked. At the end of our meal, the owner asked how it was and I calmly explained that I had issues about certain things, such as the long wait for our meal and the bathroom issues. He flew off the handle in a rage right away and yelled at me saying that he is the only person here and that it is not his problem that we had to wait. He told me that he is a sensitive person - well boo hoo that's not my problem. We ended up in a very heated exchange and he literally threw our tab at me and said our second meal was free. I payed the bill and did NOT leave him a tip. My main concern is he is breaking the law making his 10 year old kids to work in a pub. I WILL report him to authorities because he is no doubt breaking the law. BAD BAD RESTAURANT AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO NOT ENCOURAGE CHILD LABOUR TO THIS DISGUSTING PLACE.

We had driven past many times and always wanted to visit. Our first visit was a disappointment. Fish and chips were mediocre at best. Certainly nothing to write home about. Portion of mushy peas very skimpy considering the price. Decor was interesting but the whole place felt grubby. We won’t go back.
Disappointed Food really over cooked heavy batter and very dark Not comfortable felt place was not clean Much better last time I came.
Chicken and mushroom pie and chips were served very hot and tasted good, I did not eat my peas that were the frozen kind from a bag. Gravy was thick and from a package.Bathroom was very dirty.
So, I have to say that despite the latest reviews, we decided to visit this restaurant given its rating on Trip Advisor. Mistake!! We should have clued in when we walked through the door and wondered if they were open as there was no one there. This was the worst fish and chips that we’ve had… and the worst meal we’ve had in any of the restaurants we have visited during the last week on Vancouver Island. First we were told they were out of halibut. So we had the haddock… batter was over fried, brownish… fries tasted like they’d been sitting in the fryer for a while. The place was dark, dingy. Anyway, not a great experience! And, learned a lesson… believe the most recent reviews!
