Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery

We had such a cute date night here in Port Alberni at the Bare Bones Fish House & Smokery. After getting a recommendation to go here from a local, we decided that it would be a great place to try. And it was! The calamari is incredible and I definitely recommend it.

It was my first time trying this restaurant. The food was delicious. I had the 2 piece cod fish dinner. Our table also had the mussels, fish tacos and from the children's menu, chicken tenders and fries. Next time I will try the brisket!

If you're looking for some quality seafood, look no further! After a trip to Tofino, we were craving for some fish and chips. I've always loved halibut and that's what we ordered. It was delicious! Would definitely return on a future visit to the island.

As someone who has to eat gluten free I cannot say how many meals out are very disappointing . Today was NOT that. It was sooo amazing 😍 the food was incredible , fish and chips , the best I have ever had GF or not , the desert was delectable. I only wish I lived closer to experience more of the menu. Nothing but high praise here ! My hubby is not GF but loved everything he ate as well , well done ✅ ❤️

Came for a delicious gluten-free dinner on our way back from a day trip to Tofino, and the food was FANTASTIC!! Highly recommend the fish and chips and crab cakes! Excellent service, healthy portions, and worry-free for my gluten-free friends out there!

I love this place. Food is always great, they change up the menu periodically so it’s never dull, the service has always been top notch. And it’s entirely gluten free making it one of the only places in town I can safely eat at.

This place used to be so good!

Food was ok but was more of what you might expect from a fast food place as opposed to a “Fish House”.

Slaw was shredded cabbage with (maybe?) lemon… no seasoning. Cod was ok but teeny .. fries were fries.
Tartar was more of a salad dressing than tartar sauce and was bland.

Place was empty aside from myself and the server didn’t bother with a quality check and I ended up walking up to the front to pay.

For 25$ I wouldn’t bother again.
Not awful… Just “meh”.

The restaurant is cozy, very well designed seating area. The server is friendly and polite.
Food is absolutely wonderful! Must try the salmon fish and chips. :)

I read about this place last year after being disappointed at another portal Bernie restaurant. On our yearly trip up to you cool it my mom and I stopped here for a quick bite and we were not disappointed. I had the rack of ribs which fell off the bone were tender with Crispy fries well seasoned the dish was well balanced. My mom had fish and chips with Cod and homemade tartar sauce homemade coleslaw. Tempura style batter fantastic Light fresh very tasty food. Will definitely be coming back here on our next trip up to ukule it or as a dinner with my wife and my dad as well it was that good.

The building is historical with stained glass and original flooring. Super cute live moss art. Great outdoor seating year round with heaters. The entire menu is gluten free which is outstanding and unexpected as there is a lot of pub fare. The calamari was lemony and crispy and I wouldn't have guessed it was gluten free. The cod tacos lacked in flavour and I would give them a miss. We also really enjoyed the kale cesaer salad. Drinks were good and service was very fast. All in all, a great place to check out

Can't really say enough about this place. The portions are generous, and the flavours are out of this world. Fantastic service! Love it.

Not sure what the smoke house part is, we thought ribs but no.
Service was very slow but friendly enough. Caeser salad and pork belly was just thought only 5 pieces of pork.
