Would give 0 stars if I could. Been coming here for years, never had a single problem employees were always nice. I came in today and accidentally spilled a small amount of noodles into the sauce and the chef absolutely lost it on us sayings there’s rules of no spilling and we should’ve been more careful going on and on, over a minuscule amount of noodles going into some sauce man? Crazy but I could get over it. As we pay and start leaving the building the chef comes out and yet again starts going off on us saying they have rules for a reason and next time we come to make sure no spilling, angry at us yet again for a tiny amount of spilt noodles. 0/10 I recommend this place if you enjoy getting berated by an angry man

The chef/owner yelled at my wife for squeezing the frozen, rock-hard meat with the tongs just to make it fit in the bowl. Then he put our uncooked food on the window sill and immediately picked up the broom sitting right next to it to sweep the floor. I pointed out how disgusting that was before the server finally moved our food, and even she did it reluctantly.

After cooking, they tried to hit us with an “extra” shady $10 per bowl “too full” charge, clearly just trying to squeeze more money out of us. The moment we questioned it, they backed off. And as we walked out, the owner shouted “NOT BOTHER COME BACK.”

At home we checked and every bit of that so-called extra food fit perfectly into a normal to-go box. The whole thing was straight-up shady.

Everything the recent 1-star reviews say is 100% true:
• He scolds customers for dealing with FROZEN meat
• They invent extra charges
• Hygiene is ignored
• Customers are treated like suspects
• The whole atmosphere is tense, defensive, and miserable

Since you seem to enjoy reading reviews and arguing with them, here’s one you should actually pay attention to:

When this many people complain about your attitude, your behavior, and your hygiene, it’s not a coincidence — it’s a YOU problem.

Do yourself a favor:
• Learn some basic manners.
• Learn how to speak to customers without yelling.
• Learn what professionalism looks like.
• Learn that “don’t be rude” is not optional in a service business.

And here’s the sarcastic part, since subtlety won’t reach you:

If squeezing frozen meat offends you this much, maybe you shouldn’t serve frozen meat.
If full bowls make you this angry, maybe stop offering “build your own bowl.”
And if customers asking questions ruins your day, maybe this isn’t the right job for you.

Until you figure out how to treat people with even the minimum level of respect, the 1-star reviews will keep coming — and honestly, you’ll deserve every single one.

Seriously, the customer service here is a total joke. I'm giving one star because the chef/owner was unbelievably rude, dishonest, and completely unprofessional.

During our visit, he got confrontational and literally screamed at us in front of the other customers just because we filled our bowl a little too high. After that, he tried to charge us extra, which felt like he was just trying to rip us off. The whole meltdown ended with him telling us to not to come back! It was an appalling, shocking display of unprofessional behavior. It's the worst service I have ever experienced.

Do yourself a favor and read the one-star reviews; they are 100% legit and accurate. Stay far away from this place!

If I could give this place a zero I would! The image below depicts the individual who raised their voice at me in front of other customers. If one desires to be subjected to loud and disrespectful treatment in front of others, and to be regarded as less than a customer, even being told to return to school and obtain further education despite being a college-educated individual, then by all means, visit this establishment and endure such disrespect. Otherwise, it is advisable to steer clear. Upon entering this venue with my wife, we sat down, ordered a beer, and intended to partake in the all-you-can-eat option; however, I had no intention of doing so, only opting for one bowl, while my wife planned to take advantage of the all-you-can-eat offer. Subsequently, an employee began shouting at me about pressing on the bowl, and continued to berate me after one or two noodles fell, criticizing my conduct and telling me to educate myself and return to school. This behavior was exceedingly disrespectful. My previous experience was satisfactory, with decent food, but this incident has left a negative impression, and I will not return. If business owners choose to treat customers in such a rude and disrespectful manner, the only viable response for customers is to refrain from patronizing such establishments. I was disappointed, as I had looked forward to dining there, especially because I appreciate the Mongolian grill concept, and I prefer not to travel to Burnaby or New Westminster, which I believe offer superior options. The employee perceived me and assumed he could speak to me dismissively based on his perception. I hope this experience serves as a lesson to respect paying customers. I still paid for my beer on the way out, despite the embarrassment of being yelled at publicly. Customers should not spend money where they are not welcome or treated with respect.

FYI I also hear they are not meeting the health code standards as well! When you walk in the atmosphere is very unappealing as if it is not been updated since it open.

Sun mongolian is one of the restaurant I really like to eat. I really thought it was just me. But there was a lot of bad reviews about the changes. Last time i ate there. I was trying to fill as much as i can. The other people reviewing 1 start was right. They are watching you fill up the bowl. I ask them I always fill up as much i can. But i guess they dont do it that way anymore. They even told me it was 2 years ago that they started doing that. The last time i actually ate there is 7 months ago. And i keep doing what i always do. I always get excited because i can fill up as much as i can. The chef lied. That is one of the reasons why i come back there twice a week. I was craving tonight to eat there. And I remember what happened last time. And decided to check the reviews. Because i thought its only me. And yup! There is a lot of people. Experienced it. I guess ill have to look for another. It just very sad :😔

This is one of my favorite places, I order in at least once a week from them and the food has always been fantastic. Perfect amount of spice and I am expanding my exploration of the menu with continued success! The Mongolian bowl is my favorite and I love the chow mein noodles!

Love the place. Visit about once a month. I bring my out of town friends and family to this place when they are visiting and never regret it. The new owners took a little while to find their groove but they've got it figured out now. To those who were regulars before and had a sour experience I would recommend giving it a second, or third, shot like my wife and I did. I don't personally know the owners. I have zero vested interest other wanting to see small local businesses succeed. I was holding off on leaving a review and hoping they would figure it out. I think they got it now. To the new owner(s), sincerely wish you the best and many years of success in the community

I was scolded by the cook for putting too much food in my bowl. I was scolded a second time by the server when she brought the cooked food to my table. They humiliated me, making me feel like a pig. I was a regular at this restaurant. With so many restaurant options, I will not be returning to Sun Mongolian.

The new owners have a ultimatum if they want their business to keep going

1. Apologize for judging others about how they collect their food and change how they treat others

2. Change the ownership to someone else if their too prideful to apologize

If they refuse to change and keep doing things how they’re doing right now their business will go down and go out of business.
