Great food, great service. The lingcod was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Service was excellent, Quite small list of menu options and the ravioli was not available. Being I am not a steak guy there wasn't much to choose from. Loved the view and the service was exceptional

I paid $24.00 for a glass of wine which I thought was too high. I paid more for one glass of wine than I paid for my meal ($17.00 burger). I did not like that.

$20.00 Caesar salad small and over dressed. I did re order, thought I was getting a charred cauliflower steak and white (barely charred ) cauliflower pieces were served. Our server promptly replaced the dish with the ravioli. The ravioli was good, although the mint pea sauce would have been better paired with the ricotta ravioli instead of mushroom. For a high end place near the Okanagan, I wished there were better choices for single glasses of wine available. Our server was superb - did not catch her name - light hair, avid skier.

I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to takeout or room service, but the Velvet Restaurant inside the Josie Hotel was a big miss on more than one occasion. First off, the room service order of calamari was cooked in the bowels of Mount Doom: way overcooked until it tasted like hard rubber. My fork had trouble piercing the tough squid exterior. I also ordered the caesar salad and it was one of the worst salads I've ever had from a restaurant: huge pieces of roughly cut lettuce and not much else. Both of these dishes came out to over $50 with the room service charge and auto tip. Not only that, we had The Velvet cater our business lunch (buffet style) and it was more of the same: mediocre food (chicken and potatoes) and not enough to feed our large group (around 40 people).

I encourage The Velvet in Rossland to work on the quality of their food and adjust their prices a little lower. Until then, I would not return.

The whole meal was great! Especially the calamari which is outstanding. Also love the alpine view. Perfect for our 46th anniversary dinner. Thanks to all.

We had a lovely dinner for 2 celebrating our anniversary. Both our meals were amazing and had great flavour. The service was top notch.

Amazing spot to grab some fiber while tour staying on mountain. Service was exceptional, meat was a little dry/overdone, but overall a terrific experience

I’ve had two uncomfortable experiences with the breakfast staff this week. Both times I waited patiently while they either cleaned or spoke with other people. Both times the space had few customers, so they weren’t busy. I’m in F&B so I understand when you don’t have the urgency of a rush, service can sometimes slack a little. Both times the staff gave the energy of annoyed. Both times I had to get their attention and they seemed annoyed. I asked the bartender today if I’d done something wrong, and she aggressively said no, I’m just making you a coffee. If I had some something to upset you I’d like to know so I don’t make that mistake again. I left in tears today from the negativity and not being able to understand what I’d done to deserve such an awful experience. Customers need to own their bad behaviour, the service industry is a tough one where staff often take the brunt of shitty days and entitlement, but that’s a two way street.

A Bittersweet Experience at The Velvet

We chose The Velvet to celebrate our anniversary, expecting a top-tier dining experience given the price and reputation of the place. From the start, the ambiance, music, and staff were outstanding. The service was excellent, and the drinks were well-crafted, setting a great tone for the evening.

However, the food was disappointing. We ordered the mussels, tenderloin, and swordfish, but every dish lacked flavor—even the sides. Something as simple as French fries was bland, which was both surprising and frustrating. For a $250 CAD bill, we expected a high-quality culinary experience, but the food simply didn’t live up to the standard. We had to put salt and lime to different things to get some flavor out of the dishes.

One redeeming factor was the desserts, which were enjoyable and well-prepared. They provided a pleasant ending to an otherwise underwhelming meal.

If you're looking for a place with great service, a nice atmosphere, and well-made drinks, The Velvet delivers. But if food is your top priority, you might want to explore other options.

We had no expectation either way as hotel guests there are not many options at this secluded, location. Server Lauren was great & food & beverage absolutely surprising excellent. They make their own sourdough - it was great, beet salad, scallop appetizer, short rib special & a dessert, special that involved dolce de Leche, chocolate, a crispy cookie substrate, and a little scoop of ice cream.
