What a treat! I do not often give five stars for a place upon a first visit, but I loved the experience. The service was fantastic and the quality of the food made me wonder if I was indeed in a remote corner of NW British Columbia in a town of 500.
I opted to sit outside under the protection of the porch and enjoy the drizzling rain sounds while also enjoying the food. Ambience-wise it was perfect for me, and quiet.
The presentation of the plate was matched by the quality. It was also clear how the owner appreciates her customers when concerned about whether I was comfortable outside. I was even accommodated in my request for a rich espresso to end the night.
Well worth the 1440 km drive!
🙏😊

Had first meal there tonight. Reservations needed. By 6PM next reservation was 8:30 and we took it. Love the atmosphere and old toasters. Unfortunately the noise level was extreme IMHO and we couldn’t really talk. On the plus side I think this place serves large groups well but I would rather not dine with them. We were sandwiched between two large groups. No one was unruly but it was loud. Unfortunately the server said right off They were out of the surf and turf which is what I wanted but they had the surf and turf fajitas which I got. Hubby got the burrito. We each ordered a different margarita and the mezcal IMHo was superior. By the time the margaritas came pre diner was right in its heal which was great and super fast. I was expecting a long wait based on the reviews and that was not the case for us. The food was amazing. Fresh. Perfectly seasoned to let the meat and shrimp shine and not overwhelm. The tortillas were homemade and piping hot and perfect. Well Portioned plates. Hot. Great flavor. The sour cream tastes from scratch! The sides were also great and taste from scratch. A nice light slaw. Nice salsa/avacado mix. Our Server was attentive and working hard. She answered all our questions. Did not make us feel rushed and did make us feel welcome and relaxed. Meals came out hot and delicious and while I was not super hungry I ate all of my fajitas. Refried beans added a little flavor but were unimportant to me. Definitely recommend and will return. Also it is a real fine dining experience. Stars off for noise level In atmosphere. One star off on service cause we asked for the check and waited and waited and finally got the server who said we could pay at the cashier. They don’t like to leave the check and make folks feel rushed even though we asked for the check. I think there was a miscommunication hineslry and we didn’t hear to see the cashier. But while not wanting the customer to feel rushed is valid, the opposite is not good either where we are waiting 10 minutes for a check that didn’t come. Maybe the server said that but neither of us heard? Possible. Since this method is a less common practice IMHO please make it clear this is the practice. Overall Minor quibbles. The food is the star and worth it. I think I met both owners working away and happy and pleasant. Do Make reservations. We were at end of tourism season and it was pretty busy on a Saturday night. Amazing gem in this part of the province. Go!

We had a wonderful meal! They were super busy, but our food was spectacular! We were a table of 6 with a variety of entrées, and everyone raved about their meal. The presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious. Also I had a marvelous drink called the Don Carajillo, that was like a coffee-caramel dessert. The atmosphere is fun and quirky with the old toasters and other antiques. This is a dinning experience, not just a meal. I highly recommend!

We were lucky to get a group booking at El Tostador. The food and drinks were so delicious, the staff were fantastic and so kind, handled our group so well, everything was just fantastic. Communication with chef Alejandro and the staff was easy and timely, there was always someone around to take an extra drink order, the place has a wonderful atmosphere and the food was so yummy. Such a gem!

Best Mexican food i have ever had. Nachos were to die for. Only complaint i have was the lack of drink refills being brought to the table but to be fair, the place was packed. Will definitely be back.

While the food was delicious, our waitress had an attitude, was impolite, was inflexible, and was slow to take our order & refill beverages. Our group (6 people) got there ~40min before they opened (unintentionally) and several more people gathered during those 40minutes. The staff could be seen sitting at a table chatting inside and despite the potential business on their doorstep (even just for drinks if food was not yet ready), they opened at EXACTLY (to the minute) at their stated time. Two members of our group, who owned 17 restaurant locations, was appalled by their lack of customer focus.

What a phenomenal find in the tiny town of Stewart! World class food, focused on Mexican flavors, in a perfectly artistic eclectic setting of antique toasters. Not to be missed!

We came from all the way from Terrace BC. The food was AMAZING!!! The best food Ive had in northern BC. The staff was friendly and even though they were busy (it was a full house) our needs were met to the best of their abilities. If im ever in Stewart again I will be going back. Authentic, great atmosphere and a good variety of food. Highly recommend. Also one of the best margaritas I have ever had!
