Previously if you wanted Lola’s you’d have to stand in a long line at the farmer’s market but not anymore! Now in a permanent location (same plaza as Misty River Books) they have a handful of tables that seat two. A popular lunch spot for good reason. They also have lots of pre-made takeaway options as well.

Fantastic family run restaurant. The food is made fresh, right in front of you and tastes great. The wife has been searching for BBQ pork steam buns since she lived in Calgary almost a decade and these buns had her doing a happy dance at the kitchen counter!!

My new favorite "go-to", when craving noodles. They gave the best rice noodles, and the steamed bun with BBQ pork is absolutely amazing.

Noodles were bland, almost tasted like eating air. I was expecting delicious pork skewers like the ones you used to get at the drag races at the airport or at Seafest in Rupert, these were pieces of pork with bbq sauce on them. I can do better at home. Was hoping for more traditional Philippino

I found this place really nice. First time ever eating it, and it felt good going in and having an incredibly straight forward menu. Pricing is very good. Wife and I ate with plenty of leftovers for $40ish with tip. Yummy taste and informative staff. Gotta try it out at least once!

Lola’s has been a fixture of the Terrace Farmers Market for a couple of years now and remains just as popular as it was on “day 1.” I recall hearing friends mention that a Filipino food truck had just opened and that “if you don’t get there right away, you’ll be waiting in a long line.” I decided to wait a few months before patronizing this food truck, thinking that the “long lines” were just new restaurant hype. Well, how wrong I was. When I visited Lola’s for the very first time – approximately 3 months after they hit the scene – there was a long line. Subsequent visits were much the same: A line of people as far as the eye can see! Even now, in the year of COVID, Lola’s manages to attract lengthy (physically distanced) lines. Such can only be a good sign because, obviously, they’re doing something right. If a food truck sucks, people wouldn’t be lining up in droves for it. Of course, as we know, long lines at a food truck can often be a double-edged sword; that is to say, the food may be good, but you’ll be waiting a long time for it. Thankfully, though, Lola’s runs a pretty efficient operation: There are workers designated to cook and there are workers assigned to handling the customer end of things. As a result, the long line is dealt with quickly and efficiently. It’s an impressive sight to see, especially when most food trucks tend to slow right down when two or three orders come in! The menu at Lola’s is simple and straightforward – something that I’m sure helps with their overall efficiency. You can order: Chicken & Pork Skewers ($3.25 each); Rice Noodles ($3.75); and, Meat & Veggie Spring Rolls ($1.75 each). These items can be combined into attractive combos for even better value. Consider, for example, the “Plain and Simple,” which includes rice noodles and two BBQ skewers for a mere $10. Seriously, this is value you can’t shake a stick at! Of course, it’s not just about good value for money. Quality and taste matter. Thankfully, Lola’s delivers on this in a big way. Their version of the chicken and pork skewers are some of the best I’ve had to date. They’re cooked exceptionally well and the sauce used adds a nice, subtle “kick” to the finished product. The best part? Unlike other meat skewers I’ve tried elsewhere, these ones don’t suffer from an uneven cook and are juicy and flavourful throughout. The spring rolls and rice noodles, when eaten with the skewers as part of a meal, complement the rich and satisfying skewers. FOOD: 5/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: Lola’s offers exceptional quality and great value; hence, the reason for the long lines. I like this, but what I appreciate even more is that authentic feel of real Filipino street food. It’s unique in Terrace and definitely stands out. Highly recommended! We usually go to Terrace on weekends in the summer for the Farmer's Market. This is how we came across the food truck that has the name "Lola's Specialty Filipino Food". We have been wanting to review this food truck for some time but it was not listed on TripAdvisor for some time; however, we are happy to finally see it listed here. We were pretty excited to see Filipino cuisine being served so we got in line. We knew it would be good because the line on this food truck seems to keep going on and on during the Farmer's Market. The event staff made sure there is physical distancing in place with paint markers on the ground to keep people the required six feet from one another. The food truck is simple and straight forward functional - no heavy graphics or design - besides the sporadic name of the food truck on its sides. The food truck is neat and clean. Their menu is posted near the ordering window and is a bit small, but you can make it out once you reach the window where you order. Also, note that the window can be a bit higher than usual so have someone taller to place the order if you can. The staff looks like they have a working system in place in terms of cooking, ordering, and distribution of the menu. The staff is quick and knows what they are doing - also donning masks and gloves for precautionary measures. Perusing their menu, we found out what the options were. There are single items and combo packs to choose from. Some of the items are pork & chicken BBQ skewers, rice noodles, and meat & veggie spring rolls. The packaging of the items are also thoughtful - re-using the rice noodle packaging to put in the items has a good resourceful and environmental-friendly touch. They provide you with the condiments, cutlery, and table napkins in the package. Also, we have to mention that not only are the food items affordable, but they are also of very good quality - we paid under $20 dollars to get our fill. We got the pork and chicken BBQ skewers and a couple of Veggie spring rolls. On a previous occassion, we ordered a combo pack that had a lot of rice noodles. Both the skewers do not have runny BBQ sauce on them, but when you bite into them you get the most savoury flavor that goes well with both types of meats. The meats themselves are not dry or half-cooked - all of them have been cooked just right and a bit juicy. The spring rolls veggies were crunchy on the outside and has a good mix of veggies inside. They go well with the skewers. The rice noodle could benefit from more ingredients on it - but to be fair - it is used to desaturate the rich flavour on the skewers which makes sense to balance the combo pack. Overall, we like going here again and again to get some authentic Filipino cuisine. It makes me feel home again and the food impresses my partner to my delight. Babalik kami dito ulit!
