I had heard from a chef friend in the States that I needed to try this restaurant while in West Vancouver. I'm quite selective about my dining choices, and this place truly exceeded my expectations. We arrived during daylight and opted to sit outside on the patio, which was adorned with beautiful flowers—it was the perfect setting for the evening.
The service was excellent and very accommodating. We started with calamari and carpaccio, and I must admit, I probably would have ordered another plate of each had I not also ordered an entrée. The calamari was light and fresh, making it hard to resist sharing. The carpaccio, with hints of truffle, was sublime.
For my main course, I chose the rack of lamb. It was succulent and featured a perfect rosemary crust. The potato gratin and vegetables were equally delicious. Other diners at our table also had beautiful entrées. Although I didn't have dessert, others ordered some incredible selections. It was clear they were made from scratch, as my friends devoured them along with the delicious sauces on the plates.
Thank you for a perfect evening!

I've visited M&B about 20 times since moving to West Van and I've always been a fan. I've brought many guests here too. Some dishes were hit and miss but it was mostly good with attentive service. This is why I am floored about my experience tonight and will never return.
I ordered a bunch of dishes and the first entree is the steak and gnocchi. Upon taking the very first bite, the gnocchi had a short and curly hair in it. It was clearly a body hair, likely from the private region.
I pointed this out to the waiter, who first insisted it was not a pubic hair because the kitchen staff were clothed, and then informed me that the chef was willing to remake the hairy gnocchi, but not the steak on the same plate.
What!?! I suggested that a chef with such dismal hygiene standards should not be in a kitchen. This kind of finding is grounds to close a restaurant, and here the chef is forcibly and brazenly rejecting a basic hygiene standard. The waiter said that this was certainly not the first incident of this kind.
The circus continued when I then announced that I could not eat at a restaurant with such hygiene standards where my food may or may not have had a hair in it, which may have been merely plucked out and re-served. I was presented with a bill that included the other dishes I was served (and didn't touch) and would be served for dessert.
I indicated my displeasure with such deplorable customer service. Imagine charging someone for ending their meal after eating a pubic hair! This is pretty much the opposite of everything that should have happened, like profuse apologies, comp'ing the entire meal, and doing everything possible to ensure this doesn't happen again. But it will. The chef at this restaurant fiercely guards his/her ability to serve pubic hair AND their ability to charge for it.
Stunning, to say the least. And this will warrant a call to the health inspector.
I won't be dining here again and I hope my fellow West Van residents now know what kind of liberties are being taken with your food when you dine at Mangia e Bevi.

It was our wedding Anniversary and we hadn’t made dinner plans, but had heard good things about this restaurant. I called and they were able to accommodate us.We arrived 20 minutes early and we were warmly welcomed by a friendly young man, who let us choose a nice quiet table. Owen our server helped us with choosing our pasta dishes which were both flavourful and amazing! I absolutely loved the mushroom Ravioli! The date pudding dessert was also exceptional. The food and service were both excellent, as was the ambiance, the warm hues, beautiful artwork and soft piano music in the background all helped to make it a pleasurable dining experience. We will definitely return. It was a five star experience for us.

Have been coming here off and on for years, my family has also frequented this venue since they opened their doors. In the past I would have rated them a solid 4.5/5. I know there has been some BOH changes over the years. As of now I have to rate 3/5 for lack of consistentcy and flavor. The dishes we were served for a party of 5 tasted bland and some of the pastas tasted watery. Everytime I come I order the tagliolini frutti di mare. I was very let down by the lack of flavor the last couple times I had it. A little seasoning goes a long way. The pasta noodles themselves are cooked properly Al dente. Appetizers were good still.
Update 2025 Things in the kitchen seem to be going better. Tried them twice this month and both times were very good. Mmm the scalloped potatoes!!! 4/5 great to see the improvements.
Loved their mushroom tortellini! So so good!

2025 update:
Food is great! They fixed the under-seasoning issue room a while back so we’ll be back.

[3.5 star review] First time coming back since the COVID-19 Pandemic started. They are now under-seasoning everything. We provided the feedback so hopefully they improve to get back to their previous quality. It's possible they are catering to the clientele that likely prefer the under-seasoning, but this should be requested and not the standard.

Love this place. Everything is delicious. Mushroom risotto and scalloped potatoes sides are amazing both in flavor and in price.

My friend and I came for an early dinner and were delighted and surprised. We had veal cutlets with potato gnocchi in a mushroom truffle sauce. It was absolutely delicious and please note that the gnocchi were house made not the hard pellets that are often served in other establishments.
The waitstaff were attentive and knowledgeable and we left feeling thoroughly spoiled.
We had been to Mangia once and food and service were satisfactory. Returned recently and it was a huge letdown.
The caprese salad was unfresh and the ingredients unrecognizable. It was obvious that they substitued older, cheaper tomatos. Pastas were lukewarm, bland, and inconsistent in portion sizes. We ordered a $15 tiramisu for dessert and it arrived in one minute flat, slapped down on the dish broken in the middle, no sauce + no garnish, and tasted like it was a week old. We returned it and the server threw us attitude.
All in all, $160 misspent on an awful dining out experience.
Traditional restaurant experience which we miss so often when we go to Earls,Milestones or even Cactus Club. Food is exceptional 😋
