I have been a regular at Swad, an Indian restaurant in West Vancouver, for over fifteen years. Recently, I went to pick up an order my daughter had placed, expecting a routine visit. Instead, I faced a deeply upsetting experience.
When I arrived, staff asked if I had brought a bag. I didn’t. I offered to carry the food myself, but they refused, citing “policy.” What followed felt less about rules and more about asserting power.
