Hurricane Milton Preparations by Local Restaurants

With Hurricane Milton getting closer, restaurants and businesses across Florida are getting ready to protect their staff, customers, and properties. After dealing with past storms, like Hurricane Helene, many places are taking extra steps to stay safe this time around.

The Tiny Turtle, located at 249 Minutemen Causeway in Cocoa Beach, is prepping for the storm while remembering the community’s strength in past hurricanes. The restaurant has always been part of local relief efforts and is encouraging everyone to support others in need as they get ready for Hurricane Milton.

Tide Tables, a waterfront spot on Sarasota Bay, had a tough time during Hurricane Helene when a boat hit its dock and tiki bar. After a short reopening, they’re closing again to get ready for the new storm. This shows how difficult it can be for businesses near the coast during hurricane season.

Chains like Jersey Mike’s is rolling out its Hurricane Best Practice plan across all its locations. This helps each store stay secure, focusing on keeping employees, customers, and local communities safe. After the storm, they plan to provide meals for first responders and impacted communities through their Sub Above Fund, which supports franchisees, workers, and neighborhoods affected by natural disasters.

Twisted Biscuit Cafe in Palm Bay focused on keeping their staff safe while serving the community. They planned to stay open until Tuesday afternoon to give employees time to prepare. They also stocked up on fuel for their generator to ensure they could serve hot meals if the power went out.

The Cocoa Beach Brewing Company has already boarded up its building to protect against strong winds and flooding. Coconuts On the Beach has also taken similar precautions, stating, "We are as prepared as we can be. See ya on the other side, friends!" Many other local businesses are doing the same, trying to limit potential damage.

Gabbiano Cafe, located a bit above the ground, handled Hurricane Helene well with only minor flooding issues. However, the owner, Grimo, is still worried about Hurricane Milton.

Preparations for the storm started earlier since an evacuation of Siesta Key had already been announced. Normally, the team gathers 48 hours before the storm, but this time they decided to act sooner.

They are preparing sandbags and moving anything that could fly around and potentially damage the property.

Restaurants are keeping people updated on their plans through social media, letting customers know when they’ll be open or closed. This helps manage expectations and keeps everyone informed. Many businesses are still working on recovery from past storms and are asking the community to continue supporting relief efforts as they brace for Hurricane Milton.

As the hurricane approaches, restaurants are doing everything they can to prepare—securing buildings, prioritizing safety, and staying connected with customers. Their efforts show how much they care about their community.
