Had lunch at the Cuckoo Rooster after reading some Yelp reviews I had a Double Me Chicken Sandwich and seasoned fries. The place is pretty dark and uninviting and the menu is a bit confusing. When I was ready to order, I was directed to a touch screen to place my order. The touch screen did not intuitively match the menu on the wall, so I tried a few times to order what I wanted. I was expecting a Spicy Chicken sandwich like Popeye’s (which is still light years ahead of the pack). Instead the sandwich was two large chicken tenders with sauce and a pickle on a bun. The seasoning on the chicken was very weird- not a sauce and not quite a rub. I didn’t care for the taste at all. Otherwise, the sandwich had plenty of chicken with a nice mayo kind of sauce on a nice bun. The spicy fries I ordered came out as plain (frozen) crinkle fries. A bit disappointing. Apparently the touch screen didn’t reflect my choice in the order. If the coating on the chicken is to your liking, then I think you’ll enjoy the large fried chicken tenders- either alone or in a sandwich. The ambiance, touch screen menu and basic frozen fries all were a turnoff for me. Not a fan but I can see others appreciating the Cuckoo Rooster. Feel bad giving a small business only 3 stars, but there are plenty of 4 and 5 star reviews to encourage people to support the restaurant.

Great chicken sandwich. Had the Original Cuckoo Sandwich with slaw on the side, garlic seasoning. It was delicious. The worker who took our order was very friendly and answered all our newbie questions. I would go here over the chains. I love supporting small businesses.

First time here and the food was fantastic. We got the Deluxe sandwich with garlic crinkle fries. Both were amazing! But sure why the a/c wasn't even on during 90°+ day so that was a bit uncomfortable. Great fried chicken sandwich and the medium hot spices were perfect.

Hole in the wall place for a crispy chicken sandwich. Service very friendly, and although it’s hard to find this place, the place itself is very clean and well kept.They have outdoor seating and grab and go drinks (non alcoholic). Don’t pass this place up. We will for sure be back.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, I wasn’t disappointed! Had the original grilled chicken burger with coleslaw.Pros: Excellent quality chicken, juicy and delicious. Oher ingredients and bun very fresh. Coleslaw crispy and flavorful. Giant A rating on the window, good music inside, not too loud, clear menu items. The girl at the register was very friendly and helpful, food was quick to arrive.Cons: I know it’s just a door, but the front door looks gross and it’s literally the first impression. There’s some kind of cardboard barrier at the register that feels impersonal. Like thick glass and bars at a bank. The touchscreen to pay wasn’t working. I think there was a tip jar but it was kind of behind that barrier and I paid with a card so they didn’t get anything. No napkins in the bag, no offer of condiments on the way out.Overall good, I’ll be coming back as it’s a great way to get some healthy protein for a fair price.Thanks!

This is the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The fries were perfect, the hush puppies were delicious,the sandwich was juicy, crispy, the coleslaw and the pcikles were over the top. We went to this place after hiking in Malibu, and this was a great reward. Will be back on the way to LA on Tuesday. Great service.

I just saw that it reopened on Instagram. Stopped by to see if it’s good and it definitely was. You start your order on a machine & they’ll call your name when it’s ready.I tried a two piece Lemon pepper & Garlic with a one piece a La carte hot. They all tasted great, great quality chicken & breading wasn’t that bad. Their ranch and Cuckoo sauce was a great addition to the meal.The hot level wasn’t as hot as I thought it would be but it was still good and flavorful. The lemon pepper was also good but I think I liked the garlic the most.I’d definitely come back and it’s one of the only Hot fried chicken places with lots of other flavors.***update***I tried their new seasoned fries and they’re pretty darn good. More like tradition McDonald size French fries and they were cooked/seasoned perfectly.

I am visiting a friend in the area and craved Nashville fried chicken sandwich. I never thought that I would find a place as good as the one I frequently go to in NorCal. Cuckoo Rooster changed that! I had the medium spicy Nashville fried chicken sandwich - it was juicy, hot, perfect level of spiciness. My friend had the mild tenders and said that she was not prepared for good it is. From now on, I‘ll always stop by Cuckoo Rooster whenever I am visiting SoCal.
