I go there only for their best thickest bacons in the world.
I love it soooo much

Had fun taking a walk and found this cute little place. It was great for lunch and people watching

Since covid, outdoor seating is now available. There are no servers. Meals are ordered at a walk up window. Don't be shocked when you realize youre being required to pay an 18% tip for walk up windows ordering. I used to loce coming here to eat inside. This new walk up window forcing a huge extra charge on my check feels obnoxious.

Just be there to show your car.

A landmark you must go to. Food is good and big portions but on the pricy side. Even if grabbing food from the counter and sitting outside they still charge a ~18% service fee.

How can you add mandatory 18% tip when you did nothing but stand in a window and take my order? Tips are for wait staff…who WAIT on you. They bring the food to a, presumably, clean table, ask if you need anything else, top off the beverage, clear the table and, I can’t stress the importance of this enough, CLEAN THE TABLE! My burrito was sub par. Uneven distribution of taters and cheese. Dry. No salsa? Just a $30 blob of egg and tortilla in to go container. No love. At all. Went into its creation. This kitchen staff may be more suited to washing cars or, perhaps, plumbing. How the eff do you sleep at night? There’s no way in hell, any Chef worth their salt, is involved in this restaurant. Good day sir!

The Old Place has a really cool atmosphere — rustic, charming, and full of character. The service is excellent; the staff is super kind and welcoming, which really makes the experience. While the food is just average, the overall vibe and hospitality more than make up for it.

It’s a great spot to hang out and have a good time with friends or family. Definitely worth a visit for the experience!

Food: BBQ Limited menu. We ordered a few ribeyes sliced. I would honestly say half of each one was fat and with plastic utensils and paper plates it was difficult to eat. Salad and burritos were average.

Service: You order yourself, find and clean your own table, and pickup your own food. Also, apparently you are expected to clean up yourself, which is why tables aren't clean. They add an 18% mandatory gratuity to every order for the service... you provide yourself.

Ambiance: picnic style table and chairs on ranch property. We went for lunch so we were sitting outside and we were disappointed the tables and chairs were dirty so that made it unappealing. Food comes in takeout containers and you get paper plates and plastic utensils.

It was ok, but not my cup of tea. At $50/person it just wasn't worth it and we won't be returning.

great spot, fun atmosphere and right next door to a cool wine bar (where you can buy wine and take to the Old Place).

Not entirely a 5-star place (IYKYK) as it is more of a locally-known local’s spot with exceptional food, bar-like super friendly service and provides an overall excellent experience. I now fully understand why I was brought here by a local. “You gotta check this place out”, my local told me; however, be aware there is not a full bar and thus should be marked down a star, but the overall experience is 5-star.

Our table ordered waaaay too much food (the portions are abundant), but we had to try the menu. Two med-rare and very tender rib-eye steaks (these were quite rare, but not blue), some deliciously crispy bacon (pork belly) and some Mac-n-cheese they call some kind of baked macaroni. It’s very Mac-n-cheesy. Good though.

The steaks come with a deliciously loaded baked potato and a spring salad. The plate is served with a serrated steak knife, which I have never cared for because the serrated tears the steak, and even more so on the rare steak. I used the butter knife and it was a very tender and flavorful steak. The table was also brought some very fresh and very crusty sourdough bread. Great stuff!!!

All of the items brought to our table were very good except only one for which I have a complaint. The bacon (thick pork belly) needed a sauce of some sort. Although good, perfectly crunchy and smoky, if this was the only appetizer ordered while drinking, you would be drunk before finishing the plate. It was in need.

Just before we left, at 6pm-ish, a soulful musical artist came in the door and began an unamplified set walking through the bar area and indoor tables. Speaking of the reserved tables; be careful of the legs when sitting in the booths. You’ll quickly figure out why.

A good place for locals and some not so locals. I’m understanding this is a biker hangout and serves a good brunch. A neat little area outside to walk around or sit at the outside tables. Careful, the menu is more expensive if you order from the window.

Maybe again sometime.

The food isn’t great here and they serve everything in Togo. Who wants a steak in a Togo container. You stand in line and order yourself find your own seat Serge your own water and throw all of your stuff away. The meat isn’t tender. I don’t think it’s a great beef in general. If you want a drink you still have to stand in the very long food line. Flies and bees all over your food as well. It’s cool being in the canyon and outside but there are lots of other places I’d prefer if I want a good meal.

This hidden gem is tucked back among the canyons of Malibu. Getting here from the south is part of the experience as you meander through the Santa Monica mountains. The history of this restaurant and its surrounding buildings is well worth a read. The actual restaurant is small and rugged but charming at the same time. Walking into the Old Place takes you back in time with its historic bar, appropriately distributed architectural elements and cozy dining booths. The whole property is a fun place to explore and take in the natural beauty of this old family owned property. The food here is legit and the service comes with a healthy dose of old school family charm. Definitely recommend making reservations if you plan to eat. Even though it’s a bit of a drive to get to, the weekends tend to bring bigger. crowds. The Old Place is one of my favorites!

The steak itself was extremely disappointing, do not recommend. The sandwich bread from the steak sandwich was nice and soft, and the sauce complemented it well. The cinnamon rolls were the best things I tried, not too sweet glaze with a more complex flavor than just sugar, even if a bit dry.

Food and our server were excellent as always.

Part way into the meal our night was almost spoiled by one of the hosts (gray-haired middle aged gentleman) who approached us under the pretense of asking how our meal was but swiftly moved to chastising us for booking a table for three when there was only two of us. I explained that this is how the website works (go try it - min party size is 3 regardless of day/time). With this new information I expected him to apologize but no, he chose to reiterate that we should be more mindful in future.

Really disappointed with the attitude here folks. You should really consider not blaming customers for your website design.
