Love love love! Malaya tea room provided my group with our own teas, delicious bites, and quick service. The place is so cozy and literally everything I ate was fresh and yummy. They really have the tea service thing dialed in. Been to lots of tea services in the bay and Malaya is a new favorite.
Make your reservations TODAY! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Malaya Tea Room! I have been countless times and have recommended it to so many different people and everyone has LOVED it and raved about it once they go or once I’ve taken them! The whole experience is amazing, delicious variety of teas to choose from: black teas, green teas, Asian teas, no caffeine herbal teas. There is also a large variety of traditional European sandwiches to choose from as well as delicious Malaysian/asian flavored sandwiches! During December they have a special fixed holiday menu that’s also different than usual. They also change the desserts selections frequently so it’s always a different experience every time you go. The service is always impeccable and kind. Atmosphere and decor is beautiful and comfortable, like a favorite auntie’s warm and inviting home who loves to feed you! Visit this place to treat yourself (I’ve gone solo and they have tea for one!), or book for a special event or your besties birthday. They have 3 seatings a day on their open days which are Thursday - Sunday. The times are 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. They very often get booked out and full, so plan ahead and make your reservations!
The service was good and I liked the atmosphere. Not really “my cup of tea” but it was pleasant enough.
What a fantastic experience, the menu was enticing and the food absolutely delivered, it was beautiful, enchanting and so tasty!
The service was so authentic, kind, fast and caring.
The the decor was so interesting and beautiful.
But the best was the ambiance - it was so soothing, comforting and enjoyable. I will absolutely be back.
Cozy, plant filled spot for a chill afternoon tea. Friendly staff, tasty food. Favorite treats were the curry chicken sandwich, sardine & tomato sandwich, and pandan cake.
The food was good and the service was great! Leena was very helpful. Booking the reservation was easy, and when our party needed to change something, Malaya tea room was very helpful. Overall, we had a great experience!
One of the best tea rooms in the Bay Area
Ambiance and the sandwiches I would say are the highlight of an afternoon tea at Mayala. Why is this place not 5 stars? Personally have low back pain and the chairs/ benches are very uncomfortable to sit in for a long period of time. The tea I don’t feel they steep enough leaves, the flavors of the tea is very watered down. Apart from the sandwiches the rest of the items on the plate are very underwhelming - the scone, cobbler, fruit assortment, macaroon and gummy are all just okay. The service here isn’t anything special either, they only serve and check-in on you if you ring the bell. I also felt like they kind of serve you in a manner to try to save costs on their end, for example for our table of 3 they gave us a tiny amount of milk to share, I personally like a very milky tea so that one would have been enough for myself and I had to add less milk to my tea which is not my taste preference. Also they did not serve individual platters…why did I have to split a panacotta and cobbler with my friend? I just don’t understand why they charge so much for the platter then make you split everything but the sandwiches with your friend - TIP ask for a separate platter if you go so you get the most bang for your buck and your own milk if you like extra milk in your tea. I would come here again with my friends probably because it’s a cute spot to catch up with your girl friends.
Quaint place with a delicious afternoon tea that has an ethnic twist. Very much enjoyed their curry chicken sandwich, Kaya sandwich, and Malaysia pulled tea (available on the weekends)
Very cute Malaysian tea room. Food was good but not really high tea quality, more like Paris Baguette. Unfortunately the tiered platter was too big and prevented my friend and I from being able to see each other very well. We had to peek through the gap in the plates. Apart from that, the tea was lovely. A nice experience overall.

Went here for afternoon tea- book ahead because they book up quickly. Highly recommend for the ambiance and delicious afternoon tea samplings.
This is a delightful place for afternoon tea. I loved the kaya and butter tea sandwich and the panna cotta was perfection. A tiny bite of heaven.
Made my mom's birthday extra special! Great service and delicious food. Would definitely recommend
$55 buck, per person, 3 tiers, blows my mind WOW. No refills. Overpriced to the MAX! Skimpy portions and sizes. Left UN-satisfied In Alameda, 2 blocks away from my home, so disappointing. Yes I went on to your fab website had the impression of a British afternoon style tea
It’s pretentious. Boyfriend, I apologize that you spent your money and time here. It was my idea. **Huge ReGrEt***
This was my first tea service. I understand the sandwiches were pre-made. The dessert were sweet as hell and dry scones consider homemade $5 sandwiches.
For the price of (($55)) per person, it blew my mind how expensive it was. We came for a “authentic” Japanese/ British/Malaya tea service but left feeling robbed. There are better options elsewhere in the bay. Keep looking!
total $121 plus $28 tips. (Enough to gag)
The tables were cramped to hell. UN-comfortable, people talking over us on the left and right side.
Young servers dressed unprofessionally inappropriately. They were models in disguise (Hence some customers come dressed in Victorian/ British style) I am not* flipping out about fashion sense but where is the vibe? The experience? $55??! Alameda, you can do so much better!
Amazing! Great date spot, took my girlfriend here. The sandwich selections are delicious and the staff is attentive and friendly! The tea flavors were also super unique, quite addictive. The presentation of the food was also very impressive, beyond what my camera skills could capture. Highly recommend and I can't wait to come back!
