We were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful dinner. Our server was outstanding, and the food was even better. We have been looking for authentic German fare in the San Francisco Bay Area and boy did we find it. We are looking forward to returning to Speisekammer and many more delicious meals.

My partner ordered two sages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. All was delicious. I ordered the veal schnitzel which came with roasted potatoes. I also ordered a side of red cabbage. The cabbage tasted like it was thickened with cornstarch. The potatoes were delicious. The veal seemed like it was deep fried instead of sautéed and was dry. The waiter was great when he was able to attend to us. They were very busy and we waited an hour for our meal, however we were able to get our drinks quickly and they replenished our water several times.

The food is excellent and substantial. First course was an enormous heirloom tomato salad with pesto. Fantastic! My entre was the smoked pork shank special braised in apple juice. Every component was suburb. One of the highlights of the meal was the coffee creme brulee. Impossibly creamy and perfectly balanced

My family and I decided to come here for my Birthday and we were NOT disappointed!!! The staff was very friendly and attentive, the food……WOW, the food was GREAT!!!! We got the SauerBraten, now the Spatzle by itself was alittle bland, but noting a little Tabasco or wine sauce couldn’t take care of. The portions were BIG. The potato salad was also very good. As for Desert, the Apple Strudel was AMAZING!!! This was my 1st time there, but it will not be my last!

We drove over an hour to get there, and it was worth it. We ordered everything and brought a load home as leftover. Our waiter was very friendly as was all the staff. Definitely going again

I've been a big fan of Speisekammer ever since moving to Alameda ten years ago. Some of the staff have been there a long time and have always been friendly. However, since the pandemic I feel like the place has slowly been declining in quality. It's still not bad, but the value is no longer as good: prices are up (as they are everywhere), and quality is down. It feels like much of the food has gone through a bit of a cost-saving and cheapening, similar to but not as bad as what happened to Alley & Vine. We still go, but less often than we used to. I hope this trend reverses, but perhaps it simply can't sustain itself as it was. If that's true I'd be disappointed, but still grateful for the experiences I've had here.
I had the meatballs and spatzle. The meatballs were dry and the sauce was pretty bland. I had also ordered a pretzel to go with my beer, but they forgot about the pretzel and gave me the meatballs within five minutes of ordering. Gone there many times over the years and this was definitely an off night
