Got a couple small cakes for a party, and they were delicious. I like the owner as well. I will be back.

While photographing venues for Alameda Restaurant Week, I stopped by Whisk Cake Creations at their new location in central Alameda. Their display cases caught my attention with everything from cupcakes and pastries to full cakes available. They also serve coffee drinks to complement their baked goods. The owner has a book coming out featuring his renowned ube dishes - he's become famous for those purple yam creations. What makes this place special is their ever-changing Filipino-based offerings--something new on each visit. For special occasions, you can do custom designs, and what's convenient is they'll handle the creative end if you just give them your goals for the cake.

I ordered an original cheesecake for Super Bowl Sunday and it was perfectly delicious! I have since had several of the cookies, such as Ginger, Chocolate Chip & Oatmeal Raisin. They are all so tasty but the Ginger is to die for! Sooo good! Sweet, crunchy, yet chewy in every bite! I've had several items over the years, and Whisk has tasty, and high quality treats! Highly recommend!😋

I ordered the Mocha Crunch cake and it was outstanding!
Perfect consistency and delicious.
So glad I can swing by and grab a slice at their fabulous new location.
Excellent service and very accommodating! 🍰 😊

The mocha crunch cupcake is good, the vanilla is not - the frosting tasted like cheap grocery store cake frosting and wasn’t very sweet, and the cake part was pretty dry (we both took one bite and then threw them out). The chocolate chip cookies were very good. The woman who helped us was kind and helpful, but the owner just stood there and didn’t say a word to us despite just opening and being new to the neighborhood (you’d think you’d want new local customers to feel welcome, but we only felt that from the employee unfortunately).

TLDR: Bakery that turned customers away is now BEGGING for contributions to stay in business.

Whisk Cakes has delicious cakes, w/ their most popular flavor being the mocha crunch. We were very excited to try them after seeing the owner on an episode of Bakers vs. Fakers. Of course he LOST, but we were happy to support a local baker & did for many years.

After being a loyal customer since 2018, we had a pretty disappointing/frustrating experience. I tried to order a cake for our baby shower. I wanted a small cake w/ a simple design & I was quoted over $200! Even though our low income family couldn't afford to pay that much, we still wanted Whisk to be a part of our special day. I opted for an even SIMPLER design & requested to get a house cake with naked frosting (meaning a barely there layer of frosting with no design). They stated that the house cakes (which would be much more affordable at $54) can't be customized & that a small cake with naked frosting would be considered "a custom cake." They wanted to charge double the price at either $108 for. 6' or $144 for just 1' larger.

This made absolutely no sense why a cake w/ basically no frosting would be double the cost. I asked them why they wouldn't be able to take a house cake & use LESS frosting, & after going back & forth on it, they couldn't give me a clear answer. They only stated that a small cake w/ barely-there frosting would be a "custom cake" &, therefore, would need to "cost more." They simply had no logic to explain how it made sense that using less supplies/labor would justify charging DOUBLE for a cake. If anything, I was helping THEM out by having them use LESS ingredients/labor, even though I wanted something completely different. Here I was accommodating THEM, when it should have been the other way around.

I gave them several workable solutions but it was very clear that they just wanted my money & did not care about me as a customer. Even after this hassle (when this part of the party planning should have been easy), I wanted the cake so bad that I decided to just purchase the house cake & then decorate it myself. I placed my order & they were so vindictive/retaliatory that they CANCELLED my order.

I never asked for anything above & beyond what they could do, & if anything, I asked them to do less work, & yet I was being treated so poorly. This really personifies their entire customer philosophy. Their overall attitude of being full of themselves because the owner was on ONE TV show several years ago is exactly why they are now struggling. They could have been grateful making $54 which in turn would have ended up being $100s of dollars w/ future orders & other orders from my friends/family, but they chose profit & ego over current/future customers.

I later found out that that the real reason why they weren't willing to make an exception was because all of their house cakes are frozen & it would have required them to make a new cake. They could have just thawed it out & scraped off the frosting. Again, they had so many options available to them. Of course, they couldn't tell me this because it would expose their business practice of mass production by freezing their cakes, which compromises the quality of the cakes. Even Costco makes fresh cakes without having to freeze them for $12.99, so it is hard to believe they couldn't have made a $54 cake with a thin layer of frosting (using less ingredients) & no design.

Even though I had a horrible experience, I do hope they land back on their feet & learn from their mistakes. Cakes are a luxury in this economy, so if you have a customer who is willing to work w/ you to pay you for a cake, don't turn them away. Partner with them so that everyone is happy: you get money & they get a cake. It's as simple as that. Oth

We went with Whisk for our wedding cake after seeing the parade float in the 4th of July parade. We had 3 flavors, chocolate truffle, banana chocolate chip, and vanilla berry. We also had a dozen gluten free cupcakes. All of the guests loved the cake! I will definitely be going back to Whisk for other special events because that banana chocolate chip cake was absolutely delicious! My favorite for sure!

Okay wow Whisk Cake 100% understood the assignment. This custom Nike shoe cake was so on point. It was my roomie’s birthday, and they asked what he was into. I sent them a pic of one of his favorite Nike Shoes, and they created this one-of-a-kind cake! They’re based just over in Alameda, but delivered to my apartment in San Francisco. The red velvet butter cake was so good!! Highly recommend.
