Tried Crobean and had a disappointing experience. It was 90+ out and no a/c. Food looked great. Ordered a few macrons, one pastry and a quiche. $40. I was surprised by how expensive but ok. We asked for water cups and were told we could purchase. I understand at a $1 donut shop not having gratuitous water, but when you are paying so much, it feels weird and cheap. Especially with the heat out.
She asked if I wanted my food heated and I did. The flavor of the quiche was good but crust was soft and I wondered if it had been microwaved. The pastry was beautiful and I was shocked when I took a bite that it was so tough I could barely chew it. I walked if she had microwaved it and she said she did. Which is surprising as that will ruin a pastry. I let her know (kindly) that it was super tough and she basically said âohâ and did not attempt to do anything to address the fact that my overpriced food was ruined. Super disappointing and do not recommend.
If you do go, hydrate first and decline your food being heated.

This use to be such an amazing bakery when it first opened but over the last years the quality has gone way done. Weâve tried to give it many chances but stale and flavorless is all we get now. The owners are so sweet so I hope they can get back to how they use to be but Iâm not going back anytime soon.

Quantity meets quantity at the CroBean cafe, from a big menu of delicious drinks to a massive display of baked goods from bread, to pastries, to macaroons, and quiches.
Iâve never left unhappy, and Heather is always a joy to talk to. Theyâve also got a little library!
May this little cafe stick around for a long time and have great fortune.

I highly recommend asking what is fresh before purchasing. I have had issues with 4 separate items not being edible
Cinnamon roll was hard as a rock
Muffin was too dry to eat even after heating
Bagel was rock hard day after purchase and the last purchase I made there was a 13$ loaf of bread. I purchased it on Monday, unwrapped it on Wednesday to make sandwiches and saw that the inner slice the large slice had mold on it. I called and left a message immediately and let them know. I had just purchased the bread because of the price I didnât want to throw it away. I probably should have.
Because the bakery is 10 miles from where I live, I couldnât return the loaf until Saturday again probably a mistake and when I did bring it back, I was confronted with a very negative attitude as if I was lying and I was told there was nothing wrong with the bread. I was told that this is never happened and it doesnât make sense
I said I would not have returned it and would have ate it had it not had mold. I believe she expected me to remove the moldy slice and eat the rest of the bread, but I didnât want to take a chance.. I donât mind paying high prices for items. I just would hope they would stand behind their products. I was embarrassed. I felt ashamed for no good reason and then I was told there was nothing wrong with the bread. I am a sourdough connoisseur and luckily, I have found a very delicious loaf. Locally for half the price made organically.
When I explained to the owner, if I pay $13 for a loaf of bread, I want to be able to eat it even though I did consider throwing it away at that point there was a small loaf of sourdough on the counter. She pushed it towards me and said you can have that . She was obviously not happy about the situation. I felt insulted and if that wasnât bad enough, I received a text from her on my way home, telling me there was nothing wrong with the bread.! Not going back

Croissants were buttery, flaky, and had good flavor. Maybe the best I've had in San Diego.

Our experience at this place was extremely disappointing. The staff, especially one particular lady, was incredibly unprofessional and condescending. When we took a moment to decide on which bread to get, after having a bad experience with stale bread the previous week, she showed no empathy. Instead, she rudely reminded us that this wasnât âgrocery store bread,â as if that justified the previous poor quality.
To make matters worse, another customer was impatient and rude, telling us to let her do her job and even offering to buy the bread for us. Despite waiting our turn, we decided to let him go ahead. The most frustrating part was seeing themâboth the employee (or manager) and the customerâlaughing about us after this. We will never return to this establishment.
