We recently hosted a public health conference for Tribal Epidemiology Centers at the Viejas Resort, and I want to commend the resort for being a truly beautiful venue.
The hospitality and customer service were outstanding. From the moment we arrived, both our staff and our guests were treated with warmth, professionalism, and care. The conference support team went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met, and we deeply appreciated their attentiveness throughout the event.
One of the highlights of our conference experience was the food. The meals provided were exceptional—well-prepared, flavorful, and inclusive of a wide variety of options to suit our diverse group. We were especially grateful for the ample selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, which aligned beautifully with our public health goals.
That said, it was concerning to hear so many of our guests and Tribal members express discomfort due to the heavy presence of smoke throughout the casino that also bled into the conference center. Many reported headaches and respiratory irritation, and as someone who lives with asthma, I was personally impacted. Unfortunately, I was unable to eat out in the many casino restaurants or network after hours and had to rely solely on room service during my four-night stay.
Given the frequency and intensity of the smoke, I also worry about the long-term health and safety of the resort employees who are exposed to this environment daily. It’s something I hope management takes seriously and works toward addressing in a sustainable and health-conscious way.
Overall, the Viejas Resort offered a high level of service and quality, and it’s clear the staff are committed to hospitality. With attention to air quality and environmental conditions, this venue has the potential to be an even stronger host for future public health gatherings.

Grab & Go inside Viejas Casino, located near table games. Nice atmosphere, clean. Hot foods made to order, sandwiches, salads, pastries, cake, assorted drinks & snacks available. I noticed it got busy around lunchtime.

Waited 20 mins for chicken Cesar wrap got skipped by 5 other people . Went up and they found my ticket and after it was done sat there for another 5 mins just looking at it until I finally asked for my food myself. Terrible service
