Holgate is the best because Rob is so entertaining.Rob remembers everyone's name and what drink you are on no matter how full the room is. And, of course, his wines are very good too!

Awesome owner, great wine...fun place...

A few years ago I visited Rob’s quaint tasking room in downtown Amador City and fell in love with his wines. Rob’s passion for his wines shines through in each and every bottle. They are all delicious. So I went back a few weeks ago and picked up two cases with a mix of Rose, Cab, S&M, Chardonnay , and Sauvignon Blanc for my mom’s 70th bday party in the Bay Area. The wines where a hit. Thank you Rob for helping us select the best wines to go with our menu options. Hope to see you again soon.

It was our first time going there and we're so glad we did. The owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly, it was a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed their wines, great selection! It felt like we were at a friends house for dinner drinking wine. Can't recommend this place enough, you will not be disappointed.

Yup, another 5 star review here. Met the owner who was super responsive, very friendly and knowledgeable. This place wasn't even on our list of places to go but will be our first stop next time. They have AWESOME appetizers too!... unique and delicious!

Absolutely LOVE the wine and owners. When I say hospitality this is the place. Must visit when in Amador.

WONDERFUL wines that are thoughtfully made. In just a few minutes here you could tell this was “the place” to hang in Amador city. Our server/owner/winemaker was so friendly and made a point of connecting us with the local wine trail map. It seems that Rob (owner/winemaker/server) has made this place comfortable and welcoming for locals as well as wine travelers. Rob has red blends and varietal wines coming mostly from the Amador area (a few from surrounding AVAs), and out of the 7 wines we tried (6 on the rotating tasting list for just $5) every single one was so so so enjoyable. Think Rhône varietals: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, cab franc, and blends of the above. Joining the wine club was the second easiest thing we did that day (#1 being the tasting). We are so excited to have yet another reason to come visit “California’s smallest city”.

I recently enjoyed a weekend stay in Amador City and had the pleasure of meeting Rob and Cassidy, the owners and wine makers at Holgate Hill, at their new tasting room in town. They are great tasting room hosts with a true passion for wine. Definitely worth a stop if you're ever in the Sierra Foothills wine country!
