Fish batter was rubbery and the cheap plastic fork had no chance of cutting the fish into bite size pieces. The coleslaw was tasteless.

For the price you pay, you get a TON of food. The fish pieces there are MASSIVE. Looking back, I wish I had asked for less batter (that's an option if you don't like a lot of it), but otherwise it was perfect.

Great First Visit to Portside
We stopped into Portside for the first time and were immediately impressed. The place smelled fresh and clean—which is always a good first sign. The young man at the register was super friendly and got us started with an order of the Fish and Chips basket and a side of fried mushrooms.

The atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly. You could tell people were really enjoying themselves. One of the guys from the kitchen even came out a few times to wish guests a blessed day, which was such a kind, personal touch.

Our mushrooms came out first, and wow—what a huge portion! They were hot, crispy, and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. Then came the coleslaw, which was so tasty I almost wanted to lick the cup—it was that good.

Now, I’m not usually big on fish, but their fish and chips totally won me over. The batter was flavorful and crunchy, and the fish inside was light, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Both my partner and I couldn’t stop talking about how good everything was.

We also had a chance to meet Melissa, the owner. She was so kind and clearly takes a lot of pride in her restaurant. Between the amazing food, the friendly staff, and the fun, nautical decor, Portside really made a great impression. We’ll definitely be back—and we highly recommend it to others!

Fast friendly service. Ordered fish and chips and chicken sliders togo and everything tasted great! Fries could be cooked a little crisper but thats just my personal opinion. They may have just gotten a little soggy from the trip home and being in the bag but no complaints.

This place is great. We got the fish and chips and calamari. The portions were generous and super tender. The fat potatoes were surprisingly good. The interior was super cool with pirate themed tables. The staff were super friendly too!

Can’t go wrong with Portside, always hot and fresh. Definitely mine and my family’s favorite place for fish in Shasta County. Called in an order today and the younger guy working, I think his name was Tyler, was awesome and friendly with a smile. Always good people here! Support your small businesses!

Calamari was surprisingly tender and the ranch was a home made type. They had malt vinegar and the oil was fresh. Cute little place, kind host/server and yummy fish. Would go back again when I’m craving a visit to an chippie.

First timer here. Greeted by a young man who was very friendly. Ordering was easy lots to choose from. Ordered two pc fish with onion rings. Food came out quick and hot. Did not care for the batter they used on the fish or the onion rings. There was no crispness to it and was really soft and chewy. The catsup bottle on our table was full and being refilled daily. The top was a sticky mess and there was dried catsup on the inside of cap and on top of the bottle. Wife said the bathroom was clean and tidy. Probably not going back.
