Disappointing and Misleading Experience

I visited Monica’s on the River today for the first time after checking their website and social media, excited for their happy hour menu. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish.

We arrived at 3 PM, expecting happy hour food and drinks, as the website stated the new hours wouldn’t take effect until January 1. However, we were immediately told the restaurant would close in 30 minutes. The manager, who seated us, incorrectly said breakfast was served all day. Moments later, the waitress informed us breakfast had ended at 3 PM.

When we asked to order from the happy hour menu, we were told happy hour food wasn’t available because “holidays” were excluded. However, New Year’s Eve (December 31) isn’t a holiday, and the website doesn’t indicate they consider it one. What made it more frustrating was that they were serving happy hour drinks, not food. This made no sense, as the printed menu specifies that happy hour isn’t served on holidays—yet they conveniently applied this only to food, not drinks, on a day they decided was a “holiday.”

I ordered a hot toddy, but it was watered down, with barely any alcohol, and the honey was served on the side instead of mixed in. It was poorly prepared and disappointing.

The manager’s breath was unpleasant, and they were dismissive of the fact that their online information was inaccurate and misleading. For people traveling specifically based on their posted hours and menu, this is unacceptable. We ultimately left without eating. This was my first visit, and it will be my last.

I asked for American cheese on my eggs and they gave me American singles. Wasn’t pleased with my visit.

Mediocre food at best. Service was quite poor considering how many employees were there. And could not believe how expensive it was for 2 people to eat.

Garlic fries are amazing! My Santa Fe chicken sandwich was delicious! Hubs loved his burger and the blue cheese dressing was his favorite!! Homemade and fresh!

My boy said the best pancakes he's ever had. Great river view restaurant ...safe parking.

The location is great the service impeccable, we came here for a company event and had large trays of
food that left a lot to be desired. I know it's hard cooking in large quantities and keeping the food warm, but the Alfredo lacked flavor and the potatoes had a soapy taste. The bruschetta was amazing though.

The food was good, the service was great thank to Osiris. We didn't have much of any wait for our food. There is no cell phone service unless you connect to their wifi, so if you make reservations make sure to connect. They did a nice shot glass drink for my daughter's birthday she loved it! The place looked really nice, the only complaint I would have, is where I was sitting someone must of spill syrup on the floor. It was thick and sticky and there was some crumbs of food. The furniture was a bit warn and the price was pricy, parking was pretty full at 12 so was the place. Over all we had a really nice family meal.
Ps. I had the avacado toast with egg and potatoes. The berry French toast, Buttermilk pancake, waffle with whip and Blueberries, Original Joe's omlette, mimosas, coffee, OJ

It's sad that humans don't know how to act. We missed the DJ they used to have. It's all gone due to stupid people.

The wait was long but it was busy so that’s to be expected, but ordered the most expensive and most average avocado toast of my life. $20 for a single slice of bread and even sadder uncooked eggs, and bland fruit. Maybe stick with a burger here.

The bathrooms could have been cleaner. Most of our food was good, but there were a few misses (Caesar salad, Mac and cheese). Service was fast and the dining room had a nice vibe.

Usually stop in to pick up desserts for the family - the bread pudding is my favorite but you never know what kind of bread pudding they are going to have. On a nice day it's a beautiful location to have a meal on the water.
