Exceptional food and atmosphere as always. So sorry Cafe Sparrow is closing and understand prices required for quality food and service is not affordable for longtime Santa Cruz residents.
It was a bittersweet meal. Everything about it was so Cafe Sparrow - delicious. But the restaurant is closing tomorrow, and we will miss it so much! Thank you for 38 years of excellent dining. We will miss you so much.
I have always loved Cafe Sparrow and wanted to enjoy it one last time before it (sadly) closed. It was just a little more hectic than usual because so many people wanted to be there - but I still enjoyed it. Wishing the owners and the servers all the best!
Sadly, I must admit that yesterday's lunch at Cafe Sparrow was quite disappointing. I know that they will permanently close on Sunday the 28th so that would explain the crowded/noisy conditions. We ordered our salads at 12;10 and they did not arrive until 1:05. We had to ask our waitress when they would arrive and her response was that there were only 2 cooks on site. We asked about bread and she told us they were out and would not be restocking any more as they were about to close. Cafe Sparrow had always been one of my top 3 restaurants in the Aptos area. I am sad to see them leave and wish the owners/workers the best of luck.
I don't know if they were short staffed but they were very slow. It took a while to get our order taken and we were not served food until more than an hour after we sat down - for brunch (not multi-course dinner). Was very disappointing; food was good but we had to eat in a rush to make it to an appointment.
Our fifth or sixth time here so we're familiar with the food quality and this last visit was different in regards to the food quality. We heard it was closing and wanted have one final dinner there but unfortunately it was not on par with the previous visits. Aside from the beef stroganoff, our other dishes were quite bland, bummer since it used to be so tasty.
I live in the area and eat at Cafe Sparrow for lunch with girl friends. Their menu has a great variety of salads which I tend to prefer at lunch. My favorites are the crab cake salad and the Ahi tuna salad. They are delicious.
Cafe Sparrow is a charming restaurant in Aptos, CA. It is equally great for lunch and dinner, for all kinds of occasions, such as Valentine's Day, anniversary dinners, birthday lunches and dinners, as well as just for any casual dining.
I absolutely adore Cafe Sparrow, the food, the cozy ambience, and people. Have been to Cafe Sparrow many times since moving here 2 years ago and it's become a regular in my rotation for yummy breakfast and dinner places locally. The ONLY thing I ever get for weekend brunch is the Vanilla Bean French Toast. It just delights me every time and I just can't get myself to order anything else!
On the good side, the rack of lamb and the beef stroganoff were well prepared. On the other hand, a bit disappointed after having been here several times when we had been very happy: nothing of interest among the appetizers, nor the daily specials. They did not have two of the more original main courses advertised (e.g. braised rabbit). All the dishes came with the same sides.

Love Cafe Sparrow. I always get the polenta salad, yummy. My sister loves the chicken salad sandwich. We are creatures of habit, but sure everything else is delicious. The wait staff are all great and so very nice
Never disappoints. Quite the variety of entrees for such a cozy restaurant, and everything we've had to date has been delicious. You can't go wrong with their stroganoff, and their local wines won't break the bank.

The chair I sat in was hard and uncomfortable the seat cushion was not a good fit and inadequate...the kitchen noise was disturbing...I've been a faithful customer for almost 40 years
We brought out of town friends here from Minnesota. They loved it. We had the chicken roulade, beef stroganoff, and ahi, and a side of spinach. The roulade prix frixe dinner was a good value, but could use a little more chicken in the roulade. Of two different salad dressings I've had here in the past week, both Caesar and Sparrow salad, were too sour, a lot of vinegar, and salad had too much dressing. Bread pudding was outstanding. It was overall a wonderful experience, nice servers, food was hot, wine was also very nice but a bit expensive.
