The baked goods and coffee do not outweigh the rudeness of their staff. They would need to pay me to go there again.

We came early in the morning to have some pastries for breakfast. We were served ice cold stale croissants and and pastries. When we need they tasted bad and were cold the staff refused to heat them up for us. Wife insisted on her croissants inedibility and was given a slightly warm one after much complaining. Bad standard of service and poor awareness of the state of their pastries. We were left rather disappointed gives the reputation this place generally had.

It’s truly unfortunate when you discover something you enjoy, only to have the employees treat you as if your preferences are too high for their standards. This is the first time I’ve encountered such behavior, and it’s quite peculiar.

I’ve tried to purchase items for my clients, but they’ve informed me that there’s a limit to how much you can buy. This is puzzling because, in my previous work experiences, the general expectation is to encourage sales.

To address this issue, I decided to switch to ordering ahead of time. However, the situation became even more bizarre. Since they often run out of items I’d like to purchase, I attempted to place an order for two loaves of bread and eight to ten seasonal scones to please my group.

To my surprise, the man I spoke to refused my request. Instead, I was told that I had to order six loaves of bread or call four days in advance to request a pickup, with the option to hold two loaves. I decided this was too much work and not worth continuing and ended the call.

The loaves are dry and hard as hell in the afternoon to the point I worry I may break a tooth actually which was why I was hoping fresh might be better. I don’t plan on returning to this business and unfortunately can’t say that I’d recommend it after the consistent odd behavior Iv received.

Coffee and food are top tier, no doubt about it. But everyone knows it so it's quite loud and crowded there. But that's no knock on the crew or the food.

I go to this bakery about twice a month, it's convenient to where I live and the service is terrible. The people that work there need to put a smile on there face and greet the customer or find a different job.

Stopped into Companion Bakeshop Aptos and had a much-needed experience. The staff were friendly, and the barista who made my flat white did an amazing job — absolutely nailed the espresso pull. The coffee had rich notes of chocolate (my favorite), and the milk froth was smooth, silky, and perfectly balanced.

The pastries looked incredible — and it’s clear why this place is known for them. I wasn’t in the mood for one this time, but I’ll definitely be back to try them out. The space is quaint and inviting, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and I loved being able to watch the pastries being made in the back corner of the shop.

If I’m ever in Aptos again, this will be my go-to spot for a morning flat white.

Companion bakeshop is the best bakery!! I’ve been to bakeries around the country as well as here in Santa cruz. As a baker myself who’s tried about half the baked goods they offer there was only one item I wouldn’t buy again.

All their bread is wild yeast. And they offer 100% whole grain loaves! The pistachio dream is ridiculously good. I literally dream about it and I’m not a meringue or nut person. The quality of ingredients shows in everything and their thoughtfulness about healthier options is also evident. As in their almond croissant which features a non traditional whole meal “marzipan”.
Can’t wait for them to make a cookbook!!

Reliably good artisan pastries. I would not not put them in the same tier as Manresa, but definitely the sole residents of the next tier down.

That being said, I had the pistachio dream (I think that’s what it was called) and wow now that is an excellent confection and more like something I would expect from say Tartine in the city or Quail and Condor. Definitely a dessert (not breakfast) treat, it’s a flaky pastry cup (I’m sure there is a more accurate term) with a baklava-esque pistachio filling, topped with Italian meringue. Phenomenal.

Very unwelcoming. The last three times I’ve arrived 5 minutes to closing, the staff move the sandwich board in front of the door and say their closed.
