I’m a local and love the changes that they made to the restaurant! So much more convenient, the atmosphere is more modern, and the food is amazing. Staff is incredible too. Would definitely recommend!

Wow! Great food at a good price. Great atmosphere. Usually the place nearest the beach is the most expensive and mediocre. But the fish was just $14. Really good and flakey. Coconut jumbo shrimp delicious. And the fries were fantastic. Nice presentation to boot!! So yummy. Highly recommended. Will come again!!!

We were shocked to find a very fine restaurant return into a fast food environment. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and I was less than desirable and quite pricey. It's a shame that a fine restaurant was the border for a fast food environment

We had fish and chips and a cup of clam chowder. Love the food, light batter on fish and clam chowder not too salty. Service was pretty fast.

I love Avila and needed to get out of my office. I went to Custom House with my laptop in hand to get through a million emails. I ordered a cheeseburger and while getting sauce and napkins dropped it on the ground. The whole thing. A staff member magically appeared to clean it up and I had a new cheeseburger in less than 10 mins. They were so kind about by clumsiness!! Everyone was incredible and truly made my day. Burger was delicious! I LOVE their fries! Worth the stop for sure!

This place has gone from a very nice restaurant to an over priced Skippers or Long John Silvers. Food was very greasy, I was worried that I'd ruin my shirt.

Just another “same as all the rest” restaurant in the Avila / Pismo area. Really don’t like the new restaurant - the original Custom House was soooo much better.

The remodel made the restaurants atmosphere cheaper but the prices higher. Basically a cafeteria now with less palatable food. Not worth the time to walk in anymore, staff is friendly and place is clean but not a nice place to sit down and eat and the food is not worth the price.

Meh. Basic food. Harsh lighting. Good service. Good for a meal if you’re tired of not picky and need a quick no fuss meal. Definitely not a destination.

What happened? I've been eating at the Custom House since the 70s when Rick owned it, and worked there dishwashing in high school in 82. I liked the new location when they moved, too. What I experienced today on Christmas Eve for lunch was an abomination. A stinky fish sandwich served on a McDonald's tray. You've ruined the last reason to come to Avila. I'll just stay home and cook from now on. Thanks!
As locals, we are sad to see such a lovely restaurant turn into just another beach-oriented joint. We once loved the friendly waiters, excellent food and customer service, classy atmosphere, etc. We can no longer bring out-of-town visitors here for a nice experience. Why such a drastic change?
