As locals, we are sad to see such a lovely restaurant turn into just another beach-oriented joint. We once loved the friendly waiters, excellent food and customer service, classy atmosphere, etc. We can no longer bring out-of-town visitors here for a nice experience. Why such a drastic change?

So sad to report the new updated Custom House is not an improvement at all. It’s a fast food style walk up order system, not like the cozy sit down dine in it used to be. Change is fine but if you’re going to change it should at least be better. The food, I can only comment on the calamari, it was a small tray of beer battered dried up jerky, we paid $20. I gave this rating a 2 because the servers saved them, they were kind, attentive, and helpful. Who broke the Custom House? You need a new career.

We stopped here during our day trip at Avila Beach for dinner and we're very pleased with the good flavor and portions. And our kids were excited about using a Frisbee as a plate!

The move to fast casual is unfortunate. Food is ok. Location on the water is great. My bartender (Kaitlen was wonderful). The overall service waiting is due to the fast casual concept where you have to self service mostly.

Bummed it's not the same old custom house we've enjoyed for years. No sit down service anymore with a great menu. Now you order inside and a separate line for bar drinks. Waited in line forever and it was hot and stuffy. Hopefully they change it back.

Im not sure who's idea it was to remodel and completely change the custome house but my family and I were not impressed. No greeting when we entered the restaurant, seat yourself, took all the nice tables and booths out and replaced them all with uncomfortable metal stools. What used to be an absolute delicious breakfast menu has turned into 4 items that barley substitute for a meal. We will be going to fat cats from now on when we come into town. Sad, The Custome House use to be our favorite place to eat in avila

I didn't like the chowder at all. It was very thick and lots of Sandy bites..
Custom House is a nice restaurant but you grab your own menu and seat yourself, then have to pick up your own food at the counter. I got the cioppino bowl. The food is well seasoned. The sauce is a little powerful in contrast to the seafood. The service is good but I wish there were actual servers. I'd come back some day to try other options.

Used to be a great restaurant. Now it’s frozen food thrown in a fryer or pulled from a bag. I doubt they have actual cooks anymore. Cafeteria style, noisy atmosphere is awful. Used to be our go to restaurant. Not anymore and not returning!!

This used to be a great restaurant, with excellent food. The remodeled and now its glorified fast food, cafeteria style service. Menu is limited to fried food, tacos and burgers. It's dirty inside, and out including bird poop all over the outside tables. HUGE disappointment and mistake in my opinion. Didn't even eat half of out food, the quality was so poor. we won't be back.
