They remodeled and ruined a perfectly nice restaurant. When you walk in feels like you are ordering from a fast food place in a stadium. The remodel made a beautiful restaurant ugly.it is hotter inside than it is on the outside. They took down the pictures of the restaurant. They painted it orange and blue which made the atmosphere feel like a arcade. Avila does not need more fast food places they had a handful of nice places to eat and just lost one more.

I was told this place has changed a lot and I love what they've done. The fish tasted fresh and was fried to perfection. The garlic fries were amazing. I liked it so much a went back the next day and had the fisherman sandwich, also delicious. Plenty of indoor space for cold days and a great deck for sunny ones. Highly recommended!

Went for breakfast. The menu and restaurant have changed. They only offer 4 breakfast items. After seeing the food come out in plastic disposable plates, we went next door to eat. So disappointed we had been coming to the Custom house since early 1970's. Thought it was new owners, but the server next door said same owners but going in a different direction. She also didn't think the new concept would make it and they might close within the year. Hopefully, this is a positive change. Hate to see a restaurant close after 50 years.

RIP. I’ve been coming to the Custom House for 10 years and have loved every experience here… until today. Genuinely tired of the private equity model of restaurant. I never leave reviews but this is incredibly tragic. The custom house used to have an amazing atmosphere with great food and servers. They have tossed that for the complete food court experience. Don’t worry the extremely rude lunch lady (behind the bar) is included free of charge. I wish that things could change and hopefully the recession kills whatever parasitic creature has taken all the life out of this place. But one can only dream.

Custom House is the go to place in Avila Beach. Good food at a good price with plenty of room to sit. We had the street tacos, the cheeseburger, and a salad. The beers were cold and the vibe was great! We were here back in December before the remodel and during the summer all the windows and views make it a must stop when coming to Avila Beach.

We have eaten there for years and years and we were so disappointed to find how much it had changed. It's more like a fast food restaurant now with paper containers and plastic utensils. It's just not the same... I wish you never would have changed it. However, despite all that... The food was good, although I didn't like eating from paper bowls and using the plastic utensils, and the bartender who served us was very nice.

Not an upgrade with the renovation they just completed. Not a great meal with fried tourist food. I used to like to go here for their rib eye steak. No more! Bring back the old menu! They lost a client with me!!
Fish and chips are basically fried fish sticks. Place smells like oil. Overpriced food. We went on a slow day and still took over 10 minutes to take our order.

Custom house was dirty. Flys on windows and on table constantly, floors were in need of re finishing . Walls were filthy, bucket with dirty water and cloth sitting on floor next to our table. Cadillac margarita was bland. 18 dollars. Very uncomfortable restaurant due to lack of attention and caring. Never going back, everyone i have asked said same thing. Shame on management
