I walked into the Nautical Bean in Morro Bay on the first day it is open to the public and I was impressed with the remodel of the space. It is similar in style with the two other Nautical Bean locations that I have been to in SLO and Los Osos/ Baywood. I was served by the owner Brett Jones, and his mother and other family members. They were very nice to speak with and welcoming. The space was comfortable and visually has many interesting focal points. The Wifi is good along with the tunes. I'm looking forward to returning again, even before I'm done writing this review.

I thought it was a perfect place to stop spend a bit of the morning with a latte and journal before continuing north to Cambria. The barista was friendly and helpful. I loved that she knew the regular people and their drinks - there is just something refreshing to hear “morning Diane your usual?”

The coffee was fantastic, and so is the beautiful view of the bay. What a cool place to hang out. The only thing I would ask is that they move the line a little bit faster so that we’re not standing there most of the time when we’re trying to hang out with our friends. Even if the orders are backed up at least get people through the line quicker so we can go sit down and chat and hang out by the bay and wait for our name to be called. Versus standing out in line for 20 minutes.

I wish I had found this cafe earlier on my stay.
I had lunch there this morning and I loved the food, the setting across the bay, the prices are great. The menu is limited but I could find something to try every day. I had the Lox on toasted Bagel and it was delicious and filling. They have great pastries as well. I’ll definitely be back before I leave.

I really love the vibe and aesthetic, there nothing like going to your local coffee shop with the perfect view of the harbor, and sitting near the water hearing the harbor, and the quality is always on point. The customer service is always so good. the baristas and cashiers always have a smile. and never mess up.

Shoutout to the staff, I see them in the back making everything from scratch. What a great little cafe with such an amazing outside location!

The owner of this place must have been following me through my childhood in the 70s and 80s because the design aesthetic made me feel right at home. Down to the labels for the drip coffee varieties based on old VHS tape brand logos. Details matter.
The vibe is low-key chill, but exceptionally smart. Great coffee, great baked goods, and absolutely A1 people watching. The senior table starts to populate around 8 and they are live. They even leave an old towel outside on the patio furniture for you to wipe the condensation off so yo' booty don't get wet. Thoughtful AND hip. Rare.

We enjoyed breakfast at the Nautical Bean for each of our three days in Baywood. Their coffee is excellent, and they have an innovative breakfast menu. We enjoyed the California Eggel, your choice of bagel with egg, melted jack cheese, tomato, onion & avocado. (We skipped the onion). They also have an interesting lunch menu with sandwiches, wraps and salads.

Cute place by the water. Both employees working were not friendly at all. No smiles, no greeting, no personality. The both ignored us as we stood there for two minutes. The girl dumped her jar of tips on the counter to count it instead of even saying ‘hello’ or ‘we will be with you in a minute’, I asked which of two drinks the person preferred in hopes of helping me decide. His response was, “I have no idea. I don’t drink either.” … cool… thank you for the help. Would not come back.

During our visit to Los Osos to see family and staying at the Back Bay Inn, we were given a daily voucher for Nautical Bean. Our initial visit on Saturday, March 1st, left us extremely disappointed. Upon arrival, I mentioned the voucher to the cashier, but she responded with a blank stare and a dismissive tone, as if I were inconveniencing her. Later, after our coffee and food were delivered, I went back to mention that the blueberry muffin was missing, only to be met with the same unfriendly attitude. My wife experienced a similar lack of courtesy when she asked a simple question to the food runner.
What made the situation even more disheartening was noticing that a local customer was warmly welcomed—a stark contrast that suggested a “locals versus tourists” treatment. As a result, we decided not to return for breakfast. Although we did come back on the second and third days solely for coffee using the voucher, we opted to grab breakfast elsewhere.
While the coffee itself was decent, the consistently poor service makes it hard to recommend Nautical Bean. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future visitors.

The food was good and the location is quite nice, although the layout of the outdoor space puts people sitting stop one another a bit, and right up against a parking lot.
